Does anyone think CU will move up in the polls with Colorado College's loss over the weekend?

Probably won't move up, although it may seem counter intuitive to us as Cornell fans. We would need at least 21 1st place votes and last week we only had 8. I can see us getting maybe 15 1st place votes at most. It will be an incredibly close vote, however.
On the brighter side, Cornell is off next weekend while CC plays Denver in a 2 game set. CC-Denver is a BIG rivalry in colorado and Denver never lays down for any game they play against each other. In addition, CC will have little to play for next weekend given that they've already clinched 1st place in the WCHA. Denver on the other hand is locked in a 5-way tie for 5th in the WCHA. If they finish in 5th, they lock a home ice bid in the WCHA tourney.
Translation= Denver will be playing at 300%, CC's only incentive is to maintain PWR position and thus, will be playing at more like 100%.
Further translation= don't be surprised if DU pulls off an upset or two. Then, you just may see Cornell rise to the only spot left.

Prediction: If CC loses one or two games next weekend, and Cornell moves up to #1 in the polls, people on USCHO will BITCH and BITCH about us moving up when idle. )

It may not be all that close a vote. Although CC lost, it was to a team that had gone unbeaten in their previous 18 games -- since their last loss against CC.

Before the polls come out for this week, does anyone really want Cornell to be voted the #1 team in the nation? Personally, I'm quite comfortable with us in the #2 spot.

OH, so close.... but maybe better to have less pressure on them??
I guess the poles don't really matter anyway. A #1 would have been nice, but I agree that it is an uncessary pressure on them.
Speaking of rankings, did anyone hear Doug on the TV interview on Saturday night? He referred to the "Power Rankings". But, I would not stand up to him myself. Let him take care of playing hockey and I'll take care of looking at stats......

Age,
Could you edit in the "Others receiving votes" in the USCHO poll?

While it may as well be a good thing we're not #1 (target on our backs, etc., etc.), I really thought we would be today.
If you're #1, you shouldn't lose, and CC lost; that's the way I see it anyway. And meanwhile, we were the only team out of the current top 4 that had a 4 point weekend, and the only one remaining with only 4 losses.
But it's okay, I'll take #2 anyway...for now.

Murray's Interview

I was watching Murray's interview, but I guess I didn't catch the part when he talked about the PWR ratings. What did he say?
About the rankings, there's a big half of me that wants to see us #1- but only if we're playing like #1 and deserve that ranking. Obviously, the most important poll comes at the end of the season, when the national champion is ranked number one, but for now, I think it would be awesome to see CU as #1 for the first time ever.
As far as pressure, I think that the pressure is there no matter what. Everyone in the ECAC (especially you know who in Cambridge) is gunning for us. And, beyond that, once into the NCAA tournament, the stakes and the pressure are high enough already because it's win or go home. So, I think that we should've bumped by CC this week, even considering that our two wins were against unranked teams, and they lost to a (now) top ten team. We don't have any choice in who we play at this time of year- neither do they- so I still think we should have moved up.

What would Coach Schafer say? I suspect he is not paying much attention to the polls. I think he is telling the team to keep the eyes on the ball--that is, the ECAC tournament. First, the quarterfinals at home, then, Albany. Only after we get out of Ithaca, will the team focus on Harvard (assuming they make it out of Cambridge). Even then, the coach will probably tell the icers to focus on their immediate opponent.
Of course, I would have liked our team to be ranked No. 1. It is strange to yell, "We are Number Two." It does not sound as good as "We are Number One." Nevertheless, I am content with this and shall bask in it for the next two weeks.

When does the last poll come out? If I recall from last year, I think it was the Monday right after selection Sunday. Anyone with more info on this than me?

I for one would love to see a #1 ranking. We all know polls don't mean much compared to trophies, but being able to say that you were the top ranked team in the nation at the end of a season has to be a help in recruiting (and for school and league pride anyway). I doubt it would add any more pressure over the current #2 vote and #3 ranking.
That said, it's going to take more than a split with a Top 10 team to drop CC below us at this point. This week's poll results are right about what I expected. Notice that CC didn't get a vote below second place in either poll this week (easy to show). Another split against Denver next week might push over the top, but it would again be close since we don't play.

Favorite Quote from the interview with Murray:
Announcer: (paraphrase) So you cut down you're penalty minutes:
Murray: "I got soft..."
I missed the rest of his answer I was laughing so hard.

How often in the last twenty years has the team ranked #1 at the end of the season won the frozen four?
