Just perusing the standings and such, and notice a couple of things:

The three likely ECAC representatives in the NCAAs (Yale, Union, and RPI) seem to have common disease. Their home records: 12-0, 12-1-1, and 12-1. Away: 5-4, 5-5-1, 5-5-2. That does not bode well...

Also, Yale is now 11-3 in the ECAC, so they will finish with a worse record than Cornell 2003 (19-2-1). They've also already given up more ECAC goals and nearly as many overall (47 vs. 49) as Cornell did for the whole season (including playoffs). This all adds up to Yale's goals allowed being 0.88 more per game than Cornell 2003, while their goals scored per game is 0.83 better - almost an exact wash. For the sake of the ECAC, I hope they do better in the NCAAs than Cornell did that year.

As for RPI, it seems that many of their home wins include long stretches of solid defense punctuated by good goaltending. If Yale could have been just a little more sloppy coming to net in the second period they could have had a few goals. The ice in the Yale zone looked like it didn't need the Zamboni at the end of that period last night. But Yale was picture perfect in their attack and there was no scrambling in front of the net for York to contend with. York did look great. But I don't think there were acrobatic saves.

Interestingly, it was Yale that lost some of their gas in the third period. You may remember Allain making a remark about wearing Harvard down with their skating. That didn't happen last night.

It's been nice to see York pulled (at Lynah) and Rondeau pulled last night. Not the game I expected to see in either case.

So Dartmouth is now tied for 16th in pairwise. How great would it be if they win out, then Cornell beats them in the ECAC championship game to send 5 ECAC teams to the NCAAs....

How great would it be to see only three teams, or perhaps even only two, from the CCHA, and as low seeds at that. It's possible, if you look at the numbers right now.

How is this for random?

I just sent DVDs of Onion over Yale and RIP over Yale to the coaches. Do they already have access to these games? They were on Time Warner in the Albany area.

Why'd you wait so long to send them?

I had to make the damn DVDs. It isn't fun sitting in front of the TV for an RPI game - two hours the second time through. They should be there by now (or tomorrow at the latest). I used priority mail.

I always figured the teams just exchanged tapes of themselves with their opponents on the assumption that if they didn't, the other conference teams would just swap them around. It may just be that the TV broadcast was likely a better tape than whatever the team normally does with a camcorder.

The Fridge made an observation during Onion over Yale. Rondeau was beat gloves side high on the first two goals. That was what led me to believe the coaches might want to look at the first game. I noticed the same type of goal by RPI in the second game.
