Any bets for the college teams? Yale? UConn? How about a CT-MA border-battle between Sacred Heart and AIU?

I wish it would stop.

Bring back the Whalers and play all the games outdoors.

From The Courant.

A UConn doubleheader is among the games planned for next February at the outdoor rink at Rentschler Field.

Both the UConn men's and women's ice hockey teams will play games during the week and a half showcase planned for the East Hartford facility, according to a source close to the school.

I was just there for US Soccer on Tuesday, which leaves me with a couple of observations.

1. WHY!? They can't fill the Civic Center for a typical Wolfpack game.
2. Who is going to come out to watch UCONN men and/or women play in a 25k capacity stadium?
3. At least no one will be spending 2.5 hours to get out of the parking lot.
4. Why?!!

Best bet is to get the Bruins there somehow... Better bet is to not risk frostbite while watching any team play.

So we shouldn't go to games at Princeton anymore?

I wouldn't wish a trip to NJ on my worst enemy.

Pretty much, this is a stunt with the sole end-purpose of demonstrating enough interest in getting the Whalers back by former Whaler owner Howard Baldwin. In that context, I can see 30k showing up to watch the UConn basketball teams lace up. Never mind that the UConn men's hockey team's highest home non-tournament attendance last season was 754 (1467 for the holiday tournament).

The NHL response seems like it isn't biting yet.

Could be renamed Regressive Field for the "occasion". On to a Lake Erie series.

Okay, not a football field, but it seems like this will an annual event.

"Frozen Fenway"

I wonder if Cornell will get an invite to this after the "Red Hot Hockey" at MSG agreement with BU expires.

I'd kind of like it if BU and Cornell got around to playing in Agganis (and in Lynah again).

Based on the diagram the sight lines will be awful.

I missed NPR's "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me" on Saturday, so I listened to the podcast this afternoon. The "Not My Job" guest was Henry Winkler, and he talks about "Jumping the Shark" and meeting the guys who coined the term. Definitely belongs in this thread. **]

I can tell you from having gone to Frozen Fenway #1 with BU/BC, the sight lines are absolutely horrible. Hockey needs much steeper seats to be able to see. Most people were watching the play on the jumbotron since you could only see the players from the waist or knee up depending on where you were.

And if we can't get that, why not continue our own event at MSG rather than playing "me, too" at Fenway? Pull in a couple other red teams (Wisco will need some non-conference games soon!) and make it a 4-team tourney.

I like this idea. I know a lot of the big western schools don't like coming east, but maybe the lure of a packed MSG (there are plenty of alumni of Big Ten schools in NYC) would be enough to sell the idea.

I like this idea in principle, but given that Cornell vs. BU sells out MSG, I wonder how much harder it would be for us to get tickets if there were four teams involved. Not to mention the likelihood of a 1/3 empty arena for the finals.
