ECAC Players of the Week

Just an interesting note...

Cornell is the only team left in the ECACHL without a single player named as player, rookie or goaltender of the week. Despite being in first place, having statistically the best goaltender and the second highest scorer in points and goals in league games (Gallagher).

By comparison Scrivens won the award four times up to this point in the season last year, while five different players won an award through the beginning of February the season before that.

Make of it what you will, but I think it says a lot about the balance of the team this season. Schafer's agenda/comments coming into the season concerned a more balanced scoring approach, and although the top line is (was) dominant, it isn't (wasn't) the only line producing points and big goals. In general, teams could shutdown Greening or Gallagher, but Kennedy, Collins or Jillson have pulled through in clutch moments. In fact, with Moulson's goal last night only Nicholls, Axell, Birch and Krueger remain goalless.

It also probably says we don't have any prolific scoring freshman.

Almost as bogus as the 2/1 polls that had us fourth.

It'd be interesting to compare POTW/ROTW with POTY/ROTY. Gallagher, Greening, Riley and Scrivens all probably have a shot at the ECAC first and second teams, and it's a little bizarre that none of them have been POTW yet.

Given their history of senior bias, and the cliff that Zane Kalemba has fallen off this season (led the conference in GAA and SV% in 2008-09, very average in 2009-10), and the fact that Scrivens has the best GAA and SV% (with a week left to play, but still) and has played the most minutes of any goalie in conference play, it certainly seems like GOTY is his award to lose.

Has he won this only once this season? [www.ecachockey.com]

The guy leads the conference in GAA and Save % and is only good enough to pick up one weekly honor. It'll be interesting to see if the league screws him out of another Dryden award.

They use the "participation ribbon" method of spreading around credit. It's employee of the month, without the diversity rule.

Scrivens was also named the INCH player of the week.
