Cornell's regular season opener against CHA foe Niagara should provide a good measure of where our team stands at this point, as the perennially respectable Purple Eagles already have 4 games under their belts, all against quality opponents.

It will be interesting to see how the veteran firepower is spread throughout the lines tonight, and also who gets the start in goal (I'm expecting Scrivens will, does anyone have this info yet?).

The Ithaca Journal has a live blog going for the game.

CU lines report:

Miller - R. Nash - Kennedy
Greening - Gallagher - J. Devin
Esposito - Roeszler - Jillson
Scali - Collins - Axell

B. Nash - Whitney
D'Agostino - Krueger
Ross - M. Devin

Scrivens

LGR!

IJ/LB reporting Arthur Mintz will be missing in the scoring booth for the first time since 2/8/1991. Cornell senior and Newman Arena PA man Chris Lloyd takes the mic.

Shots on Goal
Cor Nia
1 8 6
2 15 13
3 17 6
OT 1 5
T 41 30

Scoring
1 06:00 Nia Beattie (Zanette, Vandenberg)
1 13:07 Cor PP Greening (R. Nash, Whitney)

2 16:58 Nia PP (5x3) Mironov (Moran, Gotto)

I assume Scrivens will start. I haven't heard anything to imply otherwise.

Look out for the two freshmen d-men, Birch and D'Agastino. Both looked older than their age last weekend and Birch just looks like he wants to hit someone. Another freshman to watch is Esposito - he really can fly, a little out of control still, but FLIES.

Should be a good test tonight. Niagara has lost 3 one goal games to good opponents thus far this year.

OK time to leave for the game!

If I heard coach right in the pregame, Birch is sitting tonight.

Princeton beat Brown 1-0 on an overtime pp this afternoon. Kalemba with 31 saves.

Good god, that whole minute or so was terrible for college hockey: Cornell has 5 men on in a PK situation and none of the 4 (!!!!) refs notice; then, a failed clear attempt turns into a point-blank shot on Scrivens, shades of Jason Dailey. Yikes.

I only saw the 2nd period, but pretty good effort so far. The Niagara goalie has really kept them in the game, as we had plenty of chances to go up 3-1 before they tied it up. While the Red has the edge in play, Niagara seems quite a bit better than last year, especially on the offensive end.
