SLU beat Princeton this afternoon, so a win puts Cornell back in 2nd. That would go a long way to assuage the last few weeks' feeling of disappointment.

From what I can tell:

Kary- Mugford- P. Kennedy
Barlow - R. Nash - Collins
Greening - Gallagher - J. Devin
Scali - Punches - Nicholls

M. Devin - B. Nash
Krueger - Seminoff
Ross - Davenport

Scrivens

Scratches: M. Kennedy (Inj), Jillson (Inj), Roeszler (Inj), Whitney

PP killed and the 1st period ends.

Impressive last PP but they couldn't cash in. Barlow almost had one but the Harvard sieve got lucky. ;)

Harvard killed another one, but Cornell had a few chances after the penalty (and as the period) expired.

Anyone watching on CBSTV and catch the names of the commentators?

Kary- Mugford- P. Kennedy
Barlow - R. Nash - Collins
Greening - Gallagher - Jillson
Scali - Punches - Nicholls

I'm pretty sure Joe Devin is in (on the Greening-Gallagher line) and Locke Jillson is out. The announcers mentioned he's injured. The way they discussed that the 'whole second line' was injured at one point makes me wonder if Roeszler is nursing an injury as well.

I think Cornell out skated Harvard. They just didn't get the key shots to go in. In addition to his two goals, Greening had two near goals. They need another guy on the ice who can finish, e.g. M. Kennedy.

Shots:
Harvard - 24
Cornell - 44

The power play is a big problem. The first unit is on the ice too much, which is understandable given the lack of a strong second unit that can score. There seems to be a lack of "surprise" in the PP.

On the other hand, Harvard's power play was impressive. They moved the puck very quickly and were taking good shots from very close to the net. All 4 of their goals were from the PP (4/6). Their PP is 15th in the nation. I think Donato deserves credit for that.

Some of the Cornell guys aren't skating agressively, which makes me wonder how healthy they are at this late point in the season. Harvard seemed to be playing a more physical game than they normally do. I'm sure that didn't help the Big Red.

Jordan Kary looked better tonight. They could use his help.

I didn't see Joe Scali on the ice very much. Maybe he isn't 100% recovered yet.

I think things will go better next weekend in Ithaca.

Too bad time's running out...It's hard to imagine that in a few weeks this team has gone from a possible #1 seed to possibly playing themselves out the tournament.

... even as the TV announcers at the intermission project Cornell as a 1-seed in the West. How many games we have to lose to not be a likely top seed? After Harvard, we're probably the projected 1-seed in the Guam regional.

At least that's what I think they said. Try finding a sports bar in Lynchburg, Virginia, that was willing to turn over the smallest of its three dozen TVs to college hockey ... getting sound also was too much to ask.

I haven't been able to watch most games, but it seems to me that we're missing at least a few key players.

Add in the lack of good bounces today, and I think we have an explanation. Of course, if we don't get healthy, then "Oh, it's just injuries!" isn't very comforting.

For now, I'm satisfied with the "injuries to key players even if it's not Greening, Nash, or Scrivens" logic. Too bad there isn't a TBRW page showing scoring by Cornell by first second third fourth line back to the Harkness era. It seems more of Cornell's game depends on balance.

Seeing the replays, it's clear that Greening made a mistake on a couple rebounds when he failed to aim closer for the pipe and instead hit the goalie's leg pads. I of course would have paused the game, adjusted the controller to aim closer to the corner of the net, restarted the game, shot, and probably scored. So, you wonder: Why can't Greening do that, too, only in real time?

There was one in particular where he was right in front of the net and had the entire right side open, and happened to shoot pretty much right at the middle of the goal. I remember thinking, "gee, that happens to me all the time in nhl '08, because I suck at shooting."

Oh well.
