Scott Pitt shot the puck which seemed to deflect into the Princeton goal with about 1:20 left in regulation for the game winning goal in a 6-4 Mercyhurst win to capture the Rensselaer Holiday tourney.

Mercyhurst hustled themselves to a 4-0 lead after one period. Princeton looked pretty tying the game late in the third. The shot total was lopsided in favor of the Tiggers. Pooh was a bit unhappy at the buzzer.

Kinda odd with the RPI tournament having the championship game early and the consolation late. wtf

Well there are all sorts of theories as to why RIP does this to their moribund tournament but none of them make any sense. It would seem that one would want RIP to play the early game today so that some of their fans would stick around for the championship.

Instead, they had the host team play the late game leaving "The Morgue"© empty for one of the best games I have seen in the last few years.

This is the first time since the tourney stopped being a round robin that RPI has played the 2nd game despite it being the consolation. The format changed last year, but RPI did make the finals.

The change was supposedly done to improve attendance.

That's bad for us (in terms of PWR effect).!

Hey, Somebody has to finish last in the league - even in the WCHA there will be a last place team - and part of being in a league is you play everybody, even the pwr weaklings.

Princeton knocked off Q 4-1 last night in a game that was considered to be non-conference, leaving Princeton's ECAC record at 7-1-0 but boosting their overall record to 10-2-0.

PU's NC slate is unique and potentially quite advantageous. They play 2 NC games vs. the ECAC (Q and Brown), and one each against the other five conferences (NU, Mercyhurst, MSU-M, UNO, RMU). Seems smart to me in the PWR world to spread your NC opponents out like that and cover all bases. Gotta take care of business in those games though. They played two of those on neutral ice (NU/MC @ RPI), one on the road (Brown) and the rest at home.

For the sake of comparison, Cornell this year goes:
3 vs WCHA (2 road, 1 neutral)
1 vs HEA (road)
2 vs CHA (home)
1 vs. HEA or ECAC (neutral)

and Harvard:
3 vs HEA (1 road, 2 neutral)
2 vs. WCHA (2 home)
1 vs. CCHA (neutral)
1 v. CHA or WCHA (neutral or road)
