“The biggest thing [working for us] is we lost a small class … we lost one defenseman … as far as big gaping holes, we don’t really have that this year,” said coach Mike Schafer.

USCHO
Goaltending

This section should begin and end with Ben Scrivens. Seniors Dan DiLeo and Troy Davenport will back up the .930-save percentage junior, who posted a 2.02 goals-against average as well … good for the nod as the preseason All-League goaltender. Twenty-one year old Mike Garman hops over from Nanaimo of the British Columbia league to vie for attention in Scrivens’ shadow.

I was under the impression that Garman would make more of a splash than this.

Maybe the writer is just putting too much stock in the pre-season All-ECAC teams? Or maybe Scrivens stock has risen with Schafer after last season. It's hard to tell.

How did Garman do last season at Nanaimo?

Edit: After actually reading the preview I get the idea that this guy has no idea of how good or bad Garman is or how he stacks up against Scrivens in the team's plans. I could have written an equally detailed season preview of any WCHA team by looking at last season's stats and the incoming rosters.

To be fair, I don't think any of us have any idea how good or bad Garman is; that's just the nature of players jumping up a level.

Last year at Nanaimo, Garman played 35 games, had a 23-11 record with 3 shutouts, had a 2.50 GAA and a .903 save percentage. The GAA was third in the BCHL behind Nathan Lieuwen (a much younger player who's not yet committed to a college) and Colgate recruit Alex Evin; his SV% was 10th in the BCHL, behind, in addition to the two above, BU recruit Grant Rollheiser.

I agree totally. I don't expect Mr. Sullivan to have some great insight into this. I was just disappointed in the content of the preview and was venting.

And in the USCHO preview of Hockey East - the UVM section:

Connelly
Besides the goaltending position, the biggest addition to this Vermont team may be Justin Milo, a transfer from Cornell who sat out last season. Sneddon expects him to be able to play right away.

“To add Justin Milo to the mix is nice,” said Sneddon. “He’s not a freshman. He’s been through it before at Cornell and that’s big.”--
