OT: Graduation Day

Cornell Hockey has been the one constant in my four years here. Good week or bad week, in Ithaca or on the road, looking forward to Friday and Saturday night hockey is part of what made these the best four years of my life.

I really thought the 04-05 team had a chance to win it all, and my sophomore year I saw us come one Dan Glover crossbar shot away from a frozen four- I guess I am now just another member of the Alumni faithful who were hopeful of a national championship.

I wanted to thank the good people around Cornell Hockey, you guys (and others), for making this so much fun. Your passion, energy, and commitment is contagious and I am grateful for all the memories- I hope to become as dedicated of an alumnus.

Let's Go Red.

I look forward to one more semester of Cornell hockey (finishing a master's) and many, many games as an alumnus.

While we're off topic, might as well focus on the day at hand.

Congratulations to all seniors upon your graduation. While it may seem like a formality, it's no small accomplishment. Welcome to the (somewhat dysfunctional) Big Red Family.

As you become an older alum, and you'll feel that way five years as well as twenty years out, you look for ways to match and rate your undergraduate Cornell to the current Cornell. Sports is one way of keeping score, along with admit rates and SAT scores and Fulbrights won. Sports in general plus in particular eLynah and attending road and home hockey (and lacrosse and football) games is a way to make and retain Cornell friendships with people old enough to be your way older brother or your parents (or older).

A friend whose daughter was just graduated from Cornell said, "Of all the Ivies, Cornell is the one where the most students say, 'I really loved being there.'"

eLynah has become an important part of the Cornell experience. May it long prosper.
