I was one of them. Serves me right for turning on the game "just for a minute." How could I know it'd go till like 2 in the morning?!
Tough way for it to end, and I was slightly rooting for the Sharks... but I gotta say, I was kinda relieved at finally being able to go to sleep.

We'll also have to find anyone who subscribes to the San Jose Mercury news and saw the full page photo of the aftermath of the goal featuring a dejected Douglas Murray skating near the net.
Douglas seemed to be struggling throughout this series. His ice time was down and the Sharks had trouble clearing the zone when he was on. In the OTs, the TV announcers commented on how tired he looked (even compared to the other players) and how he was struggling to make the plays. He didn't make any glaring errors, and even had a nice shot in the first OT, but other D-men looked stronger as the game wore on. For the first time I was impressed with the play of Matt Carle.

My guess is that he is a big strong guy who is simply not built for that kind of endurance. You don't see heavy marathon runners.

Good point. And there's no way to say he didn't look that way in Cleveland at the end of 2004 too. Not sure the jump to the NHL alone would cause that.

I believe the worlds have started and are just finishing their first round, with players joining as their NHL teams exit the playoffs. Canada beat the US 5-4 scoring the GWG in the last minute, but both teams advanced to the next round.

The IIHF World Championship started on May 2 and goes through May 18. The preliminary rounds are occurring now, with the qualification round starting on Thursday.
Sweden's been pretty good so far, but they'll need Murray's help if they want to touch a medal, especially after dropping a 4-2 decision to the Swiss today.

Douglas Murray and Iggy might not be having a completely "restful" offseason. The Sharks fired Coach Ron Wilson today. Given how the Sharks exited the playoffs, it is not all that surprising.
It will be interesting to see who the Sharks hire as the new coach and if Murray will still fit in with the Sharks organization.

Pat Burns and Joel Quenneville both on the market right now as potential replacements.
My vote goes to Kevin Dineen of the Portland Pirates right now though. Take a look at what this guy has done out in Portland, knocking off a few Cornell Alum in Hartford and Providence this post-season. With Buffalo coming in to replace Anaheim as Portland's affiliate, he will be looking for NHL work, and Toronto, Colorado, Ottawa, and San Jose all will be chasing this guy.

I think Murray will be a constant in the San Jose organization for awhile. no matter how fast the game gets, a team will always need big, physical defense men. Murray has proven to be one of the best (if not the best) on that team defensively.

Well if the Sharks are looking for more "grit and intensity", Kevin Dineen defines those qualities. I remember him when he was playing with the Hartford Whalers back in the mid 80's (and even met him a few times). He stuck in the NHL because he would go in the corners and sacrifice his body in front of the net.
It would be nice to see a younger coach (NHL assistant or AHL Head Coach) get a chance rather than see some of the same coaches change mailing addresses.

Ralph has been the coach for a decade now, but if you need further proof, there is a great shot of him during the match against Russia. The Swiss gave up two own-goals, and he doesn't look too happy.

It mentions the Ubertap towards the end - I know this is a question that only I would ask, but has anyone been able to find the actual patent for that? Everything that refers to it in the context of Murray says that he invented and patented it, but I've had no luck finding it.

From what I can piece together, the patent linked on Google is the one and same that Doug is associated with. Apparently he provided the funding to his hotel school friends who came up with the idea (James Moriarty '03 and James Murray '00) and was involved in the company until he was called up from the minors.

Pat Burns and Joel Quenneville both on the market right now as potential replacements.
My vote goes to Kevin Dineen of the Portland Pirates right now though. Take a look at what this guy has done out in Portland, knocking off a few Cornell Alum in Hartford and Providence this post-season. With Buffalo coming in to replace Anaheim as Portland's affiliate, he will be looking for NHL work, and Toronto, Colorado, Ottawa, and San Jose all will be chasing this guy.
Okay, not exactly Alumni news, but it still is the off-season, so a follow-up as to where Kevin Dineen and his brother Gord will be employed this fall is not too much of a stretch.
The Buffalo Sabres will keep Kevin Dineen as the head coach for the Portland Pirates in the AHL. The Pirates are now the Sabres AHL affiliate (last year they were the AHL team for the Ducks).
The Anaheim Ducks AHL team is a new team, the Iowa Chops and will be coached by Gord Dineen, Kevin's brother. Last season, Gord was an assistant coach under Kevin in Portland.
