I think the outcome of Sunday's game will depend strongly on who is available to play. Does anyone know the status of Evan Barlow? What is the primary issue between him and Schafer? He must really be doing something unacceptable.
The last time Leggio played at Lynah, he did not do well (he gave up 5 goals on 2/2/07) and was pulled before the end of the game. This season, his numbers are very good (save% = 0.924%, gaa = 2.08) although not as good as Ben's (save% = .935 gaa = 1.91).
Clarkson showed in Florida that they are very fast and can score a lot of goals quickly. Cornell is going to have to play clamp down defense for the full 60 minutes.
Clarkson is only 3-6-2 on the road.
According to the CHN injury report, Clarkson is fairly healthy. If B Nash can play (my guess is that he can), I think Cornell can hold Clarkson to two goals. If Barlow, P Kennedy and Gallagher are all on the ice, I think Cornell will win.

Why do you assume that there is an "issue" with Barlow or that he must be doing something "unacceptable"? He missed one game. Perhaps he was sick or injured? Or perhaps you shouldn't make such speculations without any supporting evidence?
If you want to a dig a little deeper, you might have noticed the IJ article after last night's game where Schafer was quoted as saying that Brendon Nash, Nicholls, and Barlow would all be available for the Clarkson game.

Thank you for the information from the Ithaca Journal.
Regarding Evan, he sat for the Clarkson game in Florida, but no reason was given. During the pre-game interview for the St. Lawrence game, Mike talked about Evan in very vague terms. He sad Evan had the potential to be one of the best forwards in the league, but needed to be more consistent. I think Evan moves the puck very well and has generated a fair amount of offense. Perhaps he just isn't playing the type of game that Mike wants.

Schafer mentioned (again in an IJ article...which tends to be a good source for Schafer quotes) that Barlow sat for the Clarkson game in Florida because he was feeling under the weather. Again, no reason to assume there are any problems between Schafer and Barlow.

If I remember correctly, both Barlow and Nichols were healthy scratches for SLU. In the radio pregame Schafer again said Barlow could be one of the best and Nichols had to be more physical. Thus he wanted them to think while watching. He said earlier in the season that he was going to sit people down if he thought they weren't playing their potential.

seems like this game will make it clear whether we are a top 4 team in the league or not.. win this one and with the next 4 games favorable we can make a statement as to being one of the top 1-2 teams.. lose this and we will need to play well just to be in the top 4 when the games played start to even out..
we need to take advantage of the games we have in hand..

I have not yet given up on the idea of somehow finding the ESPNU broadcast online as a streaming video. It doesn't seem to be available through the ESPN sites. But there are sites that claim to "turn your PC into a satellite tv". For example:
Anyone have experience with these? Any that specifically get ESPNU?
There are also the more nebulous P2P video broadcast sites like:
In this day and age I don't see any good reason why I shouldn't be able to purchase a webcast of a broadcast channel.
Thanks for your inputs.

Couldn't agree with you more. It would be nice if they could throw the feed up onto ESPN360.com, but of course, that would make too much sense.
I'm going to load up Sopcast around 4PM to see if ESPNU doesn't show up, but I think our best bet at this point is the Clarkson audio stream:
[hockey.clarkson.edu]
Out of curiosity, does anybody know why WHCU doesn't have a live stream? If WPIE can have a stream for CU basketball, I can't see why WHCU doesn't have a stream for CU hockey.

Where was the passion in the first period? It's good that we played so hard and cohesively in the third, but it's a shame we had such a big hill to climb -- yet we almost pulled it off against a very fine team. While I'm disappointed for sure, I have some positive vibes over the next stretch of games.

the report I got from my father who was at the game was that with the exception of a few minutes in the third period, Cornell was badly out played. I share the same sentiment from watching the game on TV. Cornell has a good team, which is capable of pulling off the upset, but they lack in some key areas. Namely goaltending. I have seen scrivens know a few times this season (only once in person) and he is not a solid goalie. At MSG he was all over the place, and tonight he let in one very soft goal (D'Alvise from behind the net) and one that he should have stopped (Guthrie's goal). if not for the post, this game could have been 5 or 6 to 2.
I think Tech's slump in the 3rd can be partially attributed to the long road weekend and playing in Lynah rink. I hate to admit it, but Lynah is a hell of an advantage to have for the home team.
The second cornell goal should have never happened. There was a clear interference no-call on the defenseman rushing the shooter, but it didn't determine the game, so I won't make a big deal of it.
I hope that Tech doesn't have to play Cornell in the playoffs, because like I said, Cornell could cause an upset.

Well, I have to respectfully disagree. Clarkson owned the first period, the second was a draw, and we clearly owned the third. We had many ops and at least one post which would have tied it. The goal that bounced off Scrivens is not one you expect to save.
I'll continue to say that I'm content, not happy but content, with where this team is at this point and the direction they are headed. The PP has a lot more movement and opportunities, they are looking to score in a lot more ways.
Remember, this is supposed to be Clarkson's year. Not counting goalies, they have 5 seniors and 8 juniors. We have 4 & 5. In two games we have had some terrible periods, and yet basically were close enough to beat them each game.
If we can beat Brown and Yale next weekend we are tied for second. Would anyone not have taken that chance when the season started?
As an aside, I don't think it's good form to go on an opponent's forum and say how badly outplayed they were, even if it was couched as if your father was saying it. Yes, I know you post here on many topics, but if I said that to Clarkson I think fur would fly.

Ben's statistics don't support your opinions. We are aware that you are not one of the faithful.
The loss at MSG was not Ben's fault. Cornell was outplayed by BU in every aspect of the game and several of the goals were just great plays. Perhaps the younger Cornell players were just too nervous playing in front of 16,000 people. In addition, BU is a very talented team with 9 NHL draftees. Although in general they have under-performed this year and have had a lot of problems with team violations, they played their best game of the season at MSG.
Ben is still a raw talent with very fast reflexes but some unorthodox habits. He doesn't always lock his pads against the posts when he should but that can be changed. He also likes to skate a little too much, but sometimes that serves him well. Remember the shootout against Clarkson in Florida?
Relative to some of the great Cornell goalies such as McKee or LeNeveu, he may just be a late bloomer. We're glad to have him and to have a second goalie who may be equally as good in Davenport.
Looking forward to seeing you in Potsdam.

blah blah blah.
So Tech outplayed Cornell but only had one decent goal to show for it?
I'll take that.
