Right.

Parker read his team the riot act for a lousy effort after the game. We'll see how they react Saturday.

But was it really a lousy effort, with BU outshooting Harvard 40-20? I didn't see the game, but my understanding is that BU controlled large stretches of the contest.

Well, I walked into the last night's game expecting Harvard to win (I had seen BU at Northeastern two weeks ago and saw Harvard play this past Friday). After the 1st period though, I remember feeling that BU was going to win the game given the way they were playing (obviously did not happen). I think the problem with BU is not lousy effort, but consistent effort during all three periods.

I'm not sure that it matters what you or I or Molly think. Here's what Parker had to say as quoted on USCHO:

"In general, I thought BU got what they deserved tonight,” Parker said “It looked like it was almost a good game: We outshoot them 40 to 20; everything looks all right but it isn’t … I’m concerned whether this team knows how to get up for a game. At 3-6-2 coming into this game, this should’ve been a game we had to have. But we let it slip away because we weren’t ready to play.”

“This is phony stuff here,” Parker said, waving the stat sheet. “This covers up the problem; this doesn’t relate to what actually happened out there tonight. What actually happened is Harvard played harder than we did. Harvard was more prepared to play; they were more willing to lay it on the line to get things done, and they finally won a hockey game on the road."

Now that all may be simply bullshit intended to motivate his team for Saturday night and beyond, but the question still is: How will they react?

I hadn't seen Parker's comments. Al, I agree that regardless of what really transpired, Parker must be genuinely annoyed that his talented team is playing like dirt. Any team that can beat a decent Vermont team 9-1 has to be reckoned with.

Parker is a headgame champion, but I was very impressed with how hard Harvard played against us. They may actually have developed some character and backbone under Donato.
