well, I doubt that there's anyone on this forum that wouldn't classify Nicholls as a 'role player.' Still, he looks like a pretty mean role payer at the least, and it's great to see him get the honor.

This doesn't take away the sting of losing to harvard, but it's nice to know that a lot of the guys on USCHO are probably tearing their hair out, seeing as they seem to more concerned with winning recruiting rankings than winning hockey games.

This community has NO idea when to let something go, does it? Come on, people, it was a typo. It wasn't THAT funny.

Now, don't get me wrong, I think we should point out to bothman every instance of our crappy recruiting class scoring goals and winning awards, but the typo? I think it's time to let it die.

According to the pdf release, Nicholls' first two goals helped snap a 3-game losing streak! Wait what? Someone had a very mean imagination or just mixed up breaking a winning streak with a losing streak. The night before.

Edit: oh and we only got 1 point last weekend too according to another one of their articles...

Actually, I read it to be "(Honor) Roll" players. But maybe I'm wrong. Anyway, I agree...let it die before someone signs bothman up to porn spam. Sports teams are famous for having "bulletin board material" but some fans' bulletin boards are freaking huge.

wait...I mean...

Can't blame this on the Daily Sun.

Not beyond possibility that Patrick Kennedy could make that list sometime this year.

Be nicer if some of the freshmen were named ECAC player of the week.

Not gonna happen. Too much desire to spread the wealth. If you make a freshman "POTW", how can you make a different freshman "FOTW?"

Oh wait. I'm being logical. Never mind. rolleyes

It's worse than that. The ECAC has name a freshman goalie (Gustafson) POTW, and then different players GOTW and FOTW. If you can figure out how that makes sense, let me know.

Do they ever make the same player POTW and something else? If not, why don't we call it a "policy" and stop pretending that the conference doesn't realize that there is something logically inconsistent about how they give out the awards.

It sure looks like the awards are an opportunity for the conference to commend three players, so if someone who fits the criteria for a narrow award wins a more general award, someone else is given the nod for the subcategory. "Goalie of The Week Who Wasn't Also Named Player of The Week That Week" looks shitty on a plaque.

Maybe it's like the Tour de France. You have 3 main jerseys worn each day (leaving out Youth and Most Combative): Yellow for the Tour leader; Green for the Points leader; Polka Dot for King of the Mountains. You can qualify for more than one, but if you do, you wear Yellow over either of the others, and Green over Polka Dot. So, it's possible that the guy in the polka dots is actually the 3rd best climber, but he leads all the others who aren't in Yellow or Green. Ergo, GOTW could have been the 2nd best goalie that week, but he was the best among all those who weren't POTW. (Of course he knows he wasn't really GOTW)

Nobody thinks the conference doesn't know what it's doing.

Let me rephrase that. Nobody thinks the conference doesn't know what it's doing in this instance. What we enjoy pointing out, every year right about this time, is that the policy is counter-intuitive.

If you're bored by people repeating the same tired truisms endlessly, you should quit the internets entirely. deadhorse

But the people who are beating the dead horse are those who complain every time about how the ECAC does it.

And what other internet do you suggest we quit?crazy

Thank you, I have one of the Bushism calendars, but hadn't seen this one. Now if I could only get you to post it so I don't have to cut and paste.:-}

Just stumbed across this clip on youtube of Nicholls involved in some more goal-scoring heroics:

It's a hand-held camera from the stands and the action is pretty distant, but it's Nicholls nonetheless, and a championship-winning OT goal at that.

And in the "other videos" panel, a

Yeah, I think that video was posted on here once before during a new recruits thread. But still...if only the band had some sort of instrument to replicate a freight-train whistle for everytime Nicholls is "locked on" to someone. That is, if the freight train didn't de-rail itself everytime it hit something ;)

If I were to ever suggest borrowing that particular train whistle, it would not be for the purpose of playing it.
