The Sun's hockey columnist Michael Mix proves yet again why the Sun's coverage of the hockey team is nothing short of pathetic.

[cornellsun.com]

I especially like this:

Arena – Lynah is great, but it sometimes feels like it is going to fall down. Agganis Arena, on the other hand, was built in 2005 and is state-of-the-art. Apparently, even though it is new, it has not lost any of the charm of B.U.’s old rink. Advantage: B.U.

I guess everyone shouldn't be so concerned about getting tickets to MSG, when the game is at Agganis. smashfreak

Advantage: BU - they tricked us into thinking this game was at a neutral site

Did anyone else - reading the original article, not the post here - think the reference was to the 2007 Cornell-BU game site as opposed to the quality of the rinks when the teams play at home? This was a comparison of a dozen attributes of the schools.

Original Sun article

Can we start expulsion proceedings against this guy already? Or at least strip him of his press badge? :-)

Righto. The two schools' football teams won't be a direct factor on the game, either. That's the whole point of the article.

I feel like I have to defend my home town a bit, though. First, regarding the better "other" school, I think BU's more concerned about BC than Harvard. And if you're judging on available girls from that "other" school, BC beats IC hands down.

And for more enjoyable local beer, Sam Adams gets knocked down because it's not local enough? Ha, then hows about you judge on one of the more local beers? The Cambridge Brewing Co. kicks the Ithaca Brewing Co.'s butt.

I'll give it to him on the weather, though. I was wicked jealous last winter, when we got like four snowfalls all season. :( I also can't believe this guy left off the most obvious advantage Cornell has: DP Dough is HQed in Ithaca and altogether absent from Boston.

Also, anyone who comes up with burritos when trying to thing of a local delicacy for Ithaca needs to be beaten with a PMP. And fall into an ice cream sundae.

The number one reason to prefer Cornell: there are slightly fewer people from Boston there.

True, that does make it easier to beat the curve for awesomeness at Cornell. Oh snap.

But on the other hand, more people from Long Island.

For BU
- More junior colleges, more people of the opposite sex to meet. (Con: If you strike out in Boston, you'll strike out everywhere).
- Longer airport runway
- Sox
- More ways to get around town when you don't have a car or you're falling down drunk (the T)

For Cornell
- Gorges
- Formula 1 race in the fall (oops, that ended 35 years ago)
- Better local vineyards (good thing this game isn't against Stanford)
- The fans (it's not BU that's selling out MSG [note to acronym-phobes - Madison Square Garden, not the seasoning.]

Against BU
- Cornell named after a person. BU named after a bridge.

Equally ridiculous reasons for and against as the Sun has. It's all part of the buildup.

After trying to usurp the origin of the hamburger from New Haven last year, Wisconsin has tried the same with the Sundae from Ithaca.

It's a rather amusing rivalry. Check out the story and the reference links on the wikipedia entry:

Dueling songs and everything.

Yeah but if you avoid Trillium you're in the clear.

And don't BU people hate Agganis compared to WBA?

Though what good does it do when said transportation stops running before you're done getting drunk? That said, Ithaca last call is at 1, so we don't really have a leg to stand on.
