There was a post recently in which someone asked for pictures of Ken Dryden in action at Cornell. I have a huge collection of Cornell Hockey clippings, autographs, sticks, and other odd items. Here is a link to some pics of Dryden in action I found in my archives. I won't leave them up for long so if the link comes up dead e-mail me for them. If anyone ever wants some pictures or info from back in the day let me know and I will look and see if I have anything.

So Evan 02 is it 2002 or 1902? With a collection like yours I had to ask.

Its 2002. I have been picking up Cornell hockey items since I was about 5 though.

I'm not sure "wow" even covers it. Thanks for sharing that Evan. For those of us who were there during the Dryden era, these pictures bring back many fond memories. Aside from the obvious (Dryden), did anyone notice a common theme of all the pictures? Answer: it was Ned's boys taking care of business in the defensive zone. Sound like a a familiar theme. Hopefully Mike's boys can carry that to the same glory that Ned's boys accomplished.

"won't leave them up for long" is an understatement - you posted at 3pm, and it's gone already at 7:30pm. :`(

I've posted them on my Cornell provided web space...

just use 1.jpg through 7.jpg ...

if Evan wants me to take them down for any reason, I will, but I'm hoping he couldn't keep them up for space/traffic reasons, and not anything else.

Bandwidth overload. They will probably be back tomorrow, but I have no problem with someone else hosting them on a more reliable server hopefully my e-mail address could be included for reference if they are hosted elsewhere.

Evan,

I'll make a webpage for the images w/ your address in not too long (probably tomorrow)... now that they're just jpgs though, they're just there on their own (wow, all three "there"s in one phrase).

Evan's page mirrored exactly on Cornell's CU People servers... for when his isn't available... okay, that's enough outta me :-)

I have included a photo gallery of portions of the pics, somewhat retouched, on the Dryden page on TBRW's Legends [www.spiritone.com] section. The pics are marvelous! The one pic of Dryden taking "a respite" is probably my favorite hockey pic of all time (and now graces TBRW's History index page).

Just a weird observation about the "respite" picture...that isn't a goaltender stick he's holding. The gloves aren't a catching glove or blocker, and it seems that he's resting on a helmet (he didn't wear one during games) that is in the top of the netting. Either it's a picture of him sporting non-goaltending equipment, or the photo misidentified a player as being Dryden.

Great photos! Check out the chain-link fencing instead of glass.

I noticed that also...and that doesn't look like Dryden really...

I was poking in the Hockey Hall of Fame and US Hockey Hall of Fame web sites for the "prestige" thread on USCHO and came across some things I hadn't seen before on the former site's Ken Dryden page.

This page has a great picture of "the pose," in his Cornell face mask, too. Then click on the "video" link to see some highlights of his 1971 Conn Smythe-winning Stanley Cup performance. The second save, in particular, is one I'll never forget, from the final round with the Blackhawks. The Hawks' #8, Jim Pappin (I think) is at the edge of the "old" small crease to Dryden's right, gets a perfect rebound with Dryden guarding the opposite post, and one-times it into the net--or so he thinks. He raises his hands to celebrate as Dryden kicks it out with his right pad or skate. Unbelievable.

As one who watched practically every one of Les Habs playoff games in '71, and who saw Dryden many times on TV and once at MSG after that, I have to say that his "pose" was and is still, one of most memorable and "coolest" I have ever seen.

Have to believe that the Bruins, in particular really must have hated seeing him look so "cool" during their playoff battles.
