Anyone know who the Q-pac player was that was injured during the celebration? He was sent to CMC with a possible broken ankle.

From today's Ithaca Journal -

Quinnipiac defenseman Matt Sorteberg was carted away from Lynah on a stretcher following the game with an ankle injury.

Good, we need all the help we can get. :-)

A Q fan on USCHO said it was unlikely Sorteberg would play tonight, and considering that he's their "2nd best defenseman after Cashman", we can only be hopeful.

I would never wish a broken ankle on anyone else. Of course, I broke mine playing hockey, not celebrating too hard after a well-deserved win, but I'm sure the feeling is much the same. demented

To me, that's just taking things a little bit too far. He was hurt in the celebration? wow. I bet their coach is happy with that.

That's a little tasteless. I want Cornell to win as much as the next member of the Faithful, but I'd rather not have anyone on either team get hurt along the way.

I'd like to think I'm better than this, but while leaving Lynah, I did think to myself "at least one of them got hurt celebrating."

I will never celebrate an injury to someone on an opposing team because it gives us an advantage, but I'll laugh at this because it's funny. Injured while celebrating? What did he do, try to chest-bump somebody on skates and bounce off to land on his ankle? Did anybody see?

Why does this remind me of Bill Gramatica?

This is like the equivalent of Gramatica busting his ankle after kicking a field goal. Granted the field goal wasn't even a game winner, so he probably still takes the cake. However, it is more humorous than getting hurt while during play or because of a cheap shot.

As far as I can tell it happened while they piled on top of each other down at Cornell's end of the ice. Just not a smart way to get injured, especially in a game that didn't clinch the series.

This reminds me of that pitcher back in the 90s who injured himself running out of the bullpen to join a bench-clearing brawl.

How about Chris Hanson hacking his leg with an axe?

Ah, punters

You are allowed to be petty when leaving the arena after a overtime loss in the playoffs. If you still feel that way a few hours later that's a different story.

Actually it was worse than just injuring his ankle. He actually tore his ACL. How do you do that jumping up and down?

Back in the Coach McCutcheon days, we had a player who broke his hand doing the little fist-to-fist celebratory tap with another player on the bench after a goal.

Can happen to anyone...
