Sheesh, what does it take for Cornell to get noticed? Maine sneaks past Quinnipiac 2-1 this week, and they move up a spot. Cornell dominates BU twice, 4-1 and 5-1, and we hold steady at #7. We did gain about 40 points, though.

The curiosity here (in my mind) is that I believe that we still would be at #7 if we split this weekend.

I know, I know... It's only a poll, which really means nothing.

I think we were shown a lot of respect in this poll. We closed the gap on the top 5 and, more significantly, BU only dropped two spots after getting drilled twice at Lynah.

Well, I think 14 points out of 6th after being 101 points out of 6th last week is a big improvement. But seriously, I'm happy to have Cornell sit in 5->8th all year and make a run at the end. Like they say over on USCHO, the only pole that matters is the one you hang your championship banner on.

Well... You could say PWR matters. If only for the seed...

But we're getting a lot of 'Respect' from them. :-)

Well, we do have a good opportunity this week, as four of the 6 teams ahead of us will be butting heads. #3 Maine plays #4 BC, and #5 CC plays #6 Denver, both in 2-game sets. Certainly the quality of opponent will be taken into account, but it's a good bet that teams ahead of us will be getting hit with losses. Should any team get swept convincingly, and we sweep WMU...it should bode well for our meaningless rankings.

All I care about is that Cornell continues taking care of their own business.

Holy shit. That made me laugh so hard I now have to wipe the spittle off my screen. I'm very glad I wasn't drinking anything at the time or I'd need a new keyboard.

I think it's safe to say that the meaningless rankings all come down to our otherwise meaningless game with Maine in a few weeks.

Dude, don't forget the Harkness Cup is at stake. It would certainly be nice for Ned's old team to finally win the damn thing.

And one first-place vote in the USA Today poll. Still seventh overall, but, as was pointed out above, that was expected.

Respect isn't going to come overnight. If the team wins it will come and if they don't it won't matter, so really... who cares where you
ranked in December for anything but bragging rights?
