Hopefully Mitch will be alright to play tomorrow night, and Jared will be back in the lineup asap.

Union assistant coach in postgame: "I think ... Carefoot got knocked out ... briefly." For what it's worth. Let's hope it's not the C-word.

I know there's a mandatory sit-out time for concussions in the NHL... something like two weeks with no symptoms before they let you play again. I can't imagine what the rule is for college.

Assuming it's mono, I wouldn't expect Seminoff back soon.

Schafer's comments in the pre-game a week ago suggested we would be lucky to have him by the playoffs, if at all.

Is it a concussion or are we assuming since he got knocked down hard and looked woozy that it's a concussion? What by the way, medically, is a concussion? It's not a binary thing like a knocked-out tooth - there are gradations and one may "could be a minor concussion, could be a bad headache"? If an MD answers this question, be advised we use United Healthcare <gag> for payment, so it might not be worth your time.

Pretty sure it is when the brain moves.

I don't know if it's a concussion, and at this point I don't think anybody does... I was just asking hypothetically.

FWIW here's what Wikipedia has to say about concussions, including how long until somebody can return to contact sports after suffering various grades. [en.wikipedia.org]

By that definition, we're perpetually concussed for 8 a.m. classes.

Josh, it's a one liner Bill Howard response. Do you need any more explanation than that? :-D

From Web MD:

What causes a concussion?

Your brain is a soft organ that is surrounded by spinal fluid and protected by your hard skull. Normally, the fluid around your brain acts like a cushion that keeps your brain from banging into your skull. However, if your head or your body is hit unexpectedly hard, your brain can suddenly crash into your skull and temporarily stop working normally.

Today's Daily Sun reported Mitch suffered a chest injury, and not a concussion...although there was no official quote from any of the coaches to confirm this. Hopefully it's just a bruise and nothing cracked or fractured rib-wise...we need him badly for Q.
