First update. The BU feed sucks. The sound quality would be better if I could pick up the game with my fillings.

BU's station in Boston is coming in very faint - only every other word but it is coming in - 1330 AM. It must be something with the transmission in Ithaca - very poor quality.

It's like they are netcasting from a radio that is tuned in half way between two stations.

BU has had two power plays within the first three minutes - Cornell killed them both. ~ 7:15 in - no score.

All I am getting is oldies. I know that pregame there were a number of "technical difficulties" interruptions, so perhaps that is the problem - and they are filling in with oldies.
Glad to hear that Cornell is winning.

Scott Hansen is the referee - he does games in both the ECAC and HEA. He was also one of the early round referees in Salt Lake City. Given that he officiated the conference championship game last year, the ECAC must think he's one of the better refs in the conference.

Should have been a shutout. AW certainly made it sound like there should have been an interferernce penalty (and at least a whistle for a stoppage in play) because a BU player was sitting on Lenny when BU scored their only goal. Still, I'll take a 4-1 win.
And I'll take another one tomorrow.

Without a single, solitary doubt. The guy sat on Lenny and Lenny was flailing to get up. Sure, there's a chance someone could have been exagerrating, but I've been situations half of that waved off and penalties issued. Bâby jumped off the bench and went over to the ref, probably got about two words in and was then waived back... and had a good minute of words with Hansen after the period.
Let's just say that the Lynah atmosphere towards Hansen wasn't improved by waving off a goal a few minutes after that. Yes, it went off his ankle/foot/skate area, but it was looking the other way and didn't even know where it is. NO way was there a "distinct kicking motion." Hansen needs a rule book.

Both calls were really bad!! From where I sat, Lenny did NOT have a chance to get up. And the Non-Goal was a deflection off the skate...no kicking motion.
As for the rest of the game, CU played really well. They played just about a perfect third period allowing BU very few scoring chances. A repeat performance on Sunday would be great.
The Thanksgiving crowd was pretty good by the numbers, probably 95% of the seats were filled...a bit quiet with a lot of students off. Should be a lot louder Sunday.

Awfully tough for us to kick it in when our man isn't even facing the goal.
Maybe it deflected off us indavertantly....I think even more likely, a BU guy was the one to touch it...But overall, I don't see anyway the call could have been an intentional kick-in on us.

It definitely deflected off us. It definitely went off the foot area. It was definitely 100% unintentional, short of being intentionally in a good position.

If that is the best the ECAC and HE have to offer it's a sad day for officals in college hockey. The second period was quite possibly the most poorly officiated period of hockey I have EVER seen. He missed calls, made bad calls, allowed a BS goal, and then waved off a legit goal . I hope we can do better than Scott Hansen tomorrow night.
All-in-all the guys played a great game, Dave was solid in net and the rest of the team was moving well with and without the puck. A very impressive effort from top to bottom.

I think that Hansen saw the Cornell player push the BU player into LeNevue, and saw nothing after that until the goal. If this is all he saw, he was correct in his call. If he saw the BU player holding LeNevue to the ground and ignored it because he was pushed there, then he was incorrect.

From my view (Section C), LeNeveu was unable to get up, as he was being held down by the BU player. How can that NOT be interference with the goaltender?
I didn't see an intentional kick-in on the disallowed goal, but my vision and view aren't wonderful.
According to the program, we get the same officials again Sunday.
Hansen seemed inconsistent. He started out calling Bâby on a very marginal call in the first minute of play - as if he wanted to call a tight game, but by the second period, it seemed that he'd let anything go.
Hansen may well be one of the best refs we get - but he blew the call on BU's goal, IMHO. His call of the disallowed goal was quick and emphatic - maybe he was right - but it didn't look like a kick to me.
All in all, a strong team effort and a mostly well-played game. Sunday's game should be a good one. Getting up early on them again would be nice, but I'm not sure we can count on a BU goalie having only a .250 save percentage often.
LETS GO RED !

Last year at BU we saw their #2, Tapp, in the first game (a loss), and then beat #1 Fields in the second. I'm guessing Parker wanted to get Siewic (sp?) into one of the games with Cornell because they're non-conference. If they'd lost the first one with Fields, Parker would've found it difficult to play his #2 guy in the second game because he'd have wanted to avoid a sweep.

The kick was definitely a Cornell player. It was definitely off of a skate. There was definitely a movement of the leg towards the goal. The Cornell player was turing around and in doing so swept his leg towards the goal mouth. The puck happened to be under his skate, and went from trickling wide of the net to accelerating into the goal. It was probably unintentional, but when you're on ice level and watching the puck (which is the ref's job in that situation) there's no way you can guess at a player's intent by watching his eyes and still do your job. The call was the only one Hansen could have made, and I doubt any official would have let that goal stand unless s/he was out of position and didn't see the kick at all. Unlucky for Cornell, sure, but NOT a bad call.

Fields has been taking approx 75% of the game load for BU this season, so it would be consistant with the pattern to see him today.
Parker probably just wanted to get the frosh netminder some experience yesterday in front of a hostile road crowd against a good team. While it seems to be early in the season, BU's non-conference schedule really thins from here on out (a holiday tourney and one road game against lowly Rensselaer, whom they've already played and beaten this season). So looking at this from the 30,000 foot angle, this was Parker's last real chance to apply a non-conference test to the freshman.

In the pregame, it was pretty evident that Parker was taking the game seriously, so I was a little surprised they started the freshman. Think of it from our side: you know we will see Marr and/or Chabot eventually, but good lord NOT against BU. (I wonder if we will see either against Western Michigan, considering that we will have to see someone other than Lenny against Maine. My guess is that someone would have seen game action at UVM in the third if it had been 8-1 rather than 8-0).

If Schafer wants to rest Lenny before the Maine game, I'll understand - but I don't see any reason that we need to give anyone any ice time before the Maine game. The Estero tournament is nice, but it is also a good opportunity to give one of the backups some ice time in case Lenny can't play an ECAC game (heaven forbid). We certainly don't need to field anything but our best team at any time until we have to.

Gotta disagree with you here. I think we should try to be as prepared as possible for Maine because Maine will probably be the toughest opponent we face during the regular season.
So, if we know that Leneveu won't be playing during the tournament, then I would prefer to get either Chabot or Marr some game time before we face Maine.
Of course, I've never coached hockey before, and sometimes make a pathetic attempt at playing the game, but...
I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night...

I've heard for months now that Marr is pretty good, so now I want to "see" (in a manner of speaking) him prove it on the ice. This seems like the perfect opportunity, starting him against WMU in preparation for possibly starting him against Maine. (Nothing against Chabot, of course, but I've heard more about Marr.)

BRA,
If you want to get a feel for how important the out of conference games that Cornell plays are, you should go to [spiritone.com] and play with the "You Are The Committee" resource. If we reverse the results of last year's Estero (Changing the losses to wins, not changing the opponents), then we jump from 7th in Pairwise to 1st.
I think that an ECAC team can make a pretty good argument that out of conference games are MORE important than league games, especially against quality competition.

Bah, humbug! Only if the NCAA rankings are all that matter. I think that the wins over BU and OSU, if we win the ECAC, are enough to keep us from being a CC-rule casualty. (Knock on wood. I am not trying to jinx the trip to WMU, much less Estero.) I would rather dominate the ECAC with Lenny between the pipes because I care about dominating the ECAC.
That said, . . . point taken.

I apologize in advance for being a tool and apparently out of the loop, but why is it that Lenny won't be playing these games???

The article mentions the dates of the World Jrs, which overlap with the FL tourney and the North Country road trip.

Uhhh. Actually it is a HUGE honor- not to mention that it is a dream of all Canadian hockey players from the time they first pick up a hockey stick. As a Cornellian and as a Canadian I am vary happy for him and proud that he will hopefully be there to represent both. Please stop thinking about yourself for once. The team will survive without him. We aren't #1 on defense right now for nothing.

If Team Canada gets to play the US, I REALLY don't want him in there...

Melissa. . .
While I am sure that asshole '04 doesn't want Lenny to leave to play for the Canadian National team, (at some level neither do I - Manderville and Ratushny never came back after the Olympics and that still saddens me) I am going to go out onto a limb and say that he was intentionally being over the top and didn't expect Lenny to say "Piss off, eh" to his country.
There is no need to get your "maple leafs" in a bunch. I mean, come on, he does go by "asshole" . . .

true. true. i still stand by what i said tho. from my perspective you just don't go there - a$$hole or not.
furthermore - if he plays and does awesome, does a$$hole relaize how much recognition our program will get on the international level? it'd be great for recruiting!
