Someone please straighten me out. Gametracker lists Binda as the referee for this game. USCHO Box score lists Murphy as the ref for the UNH-WMU game today, but I listened to that game earlier on the UNH feed and the announcers kept referring to the referee as Binda. Were the UNH announcers just wrong, or did the refs get switched? Thanks.

Honestly? It's a shame, but face it, most of us expected to be playing WMU tonight and hoping to get the win we "should" be getting. Beating #5 Maine after beating #2 UNH would have been serious icing on the cake. I'm not thrilled, but I'll live with it.

I'm talking more about the 6-1 (adjusted score) drubbing the team is getting. Losing is one thing, but getting creamed is another.

Losing is one thing, but getting creamed is another.

Getting creamed is losing 11-0, something which never happened twice in recent history.

Actually we're both wrong. I just looked it up and "getting creamed" is losing 12-0

Let's just say that a Google Images search for "getting creamed" isn't work-safe, and leave it at that.

What's really amazing about that 19-1 game is that it only involved one hat trick.

Even more amazing in that it wasn't unusual for that squad to have only 15 or 16 skaters a night.

Most games, that squad was so much better than its opposition, 15 or 16 skaters was more than they needed to win.

In those days teams skated three lines and two defensive pairings. A fourth line was sent out occasionally to give the others a breather. Fourth liner Ed Ambis had just one goal in the great 1970 season--the game-tying goal in the ECAC championship. No one "rolled" four lines then. Ned won the NCAAs at RPI skating two lines and three defensemen.

And frequently retying the laces on his goalie's pads. whistle [He didn't, however, have control over the lights against Michigan and Minnesota at the Broadmoor World Arena.]
