Since it is the end of the first and no one has started a game thread....

2 of the Dartmouth goals on the PP.

1st 7:58 DC Lovejoy (Johnson, Wyman) PPG
1st 19:38 DC Gallardi (Shields) PPG
3rd 17:38 DC Glass ENG
3rd 19:08 CU Romano (Swada)
3rd 19:28 CU Sawada (McCutcheon)

Through 2 periods
Davenport 20 saves (5, 9, 6)
Devine 35 saves (16, 10, 9)

BTW, a miracle happend tonight... ALL-ACCESS... audio AND Video during the pregame!!! WOW! And then the feed dropped with about 5 minutes left in the second period (but did comeback for the 3rd).

Cornell seemed to be in Dartmouth's zone for most of the period, but I don't recall too many quality chances. Bitz's line had a scramble out in front of Dartmouth goalie Devine,

Cornell PP ends with the Red (Romano) gets called for a penalty. Dartmouth negates their PP with a penalty.

I apologize for being bad about catching names and penalties, but hey I guess that is what gametracker is for.;-)

But better than CSTV is at delivering audio and video for the *entire* game.

Did we miss a DC goal when CSTV went down? I thought I heard the Dartmouth radio guy say Cornell was facing a 3 goal deficeit.

Yeah...I'm thinking along the same lines, saying to myself "This isn't a very good broadcast, but dammit if this guy isn't trying damn hard."

Krantz pulled down. Penalty to DC, but a dive on Krantz. 4x4 hockey.

Ahh yes, the paradoxical Hook and a Dive matching penalties call, with krantz being called for diving although he was hooked.

Absolutely nothing paradoxical about it. In the ref's judgment, the Dartmouth player genuinely committed a hooking infraction, then Krantz exaggerated the effects of it in order to try to ensure the penalty call. Hooking on Dartmouth, diving on Cornell. Any questions?

From where I was sitting I couldn't really see Krantz. However, you kind of can't blame him for exaggerating it, considering the refs were calling every infraction on us and refusing to call extremely blatant ones on Dartmouth.

During the 3rd period, my friends and I noticed the ref talking to the Dartmouth coach for a while, and clearly joking around and having a laugh. Was there some kind of connection there that meant Dartmouth got the upper hand for ref calls?

Oh, please... are you listening to yourself?

The same referees work these games week after week, year after year, and the coaches know them all by first name. Suggesting that because Bob Gaudet and Frank Murphy had a couple of laughs, the refs were in Dartmouth's pocket, is the worst kind of desperate stretching for external reasons for the loss when the reasons were internal.

Go look at the box score for this game - Cornell called for eight penalties, Dartmouth called for ten - and ask yourself again if you think the officiating was lopsided. What was lopsided was taking advantage of them - Dartmouth scored on 33% of their power plays, we scored on 0% of ours. You can't win games if your special teams are ineffective, and right now our special teams are ineffective.

Sooner or later, you have to look at whether the team performed well enough to win the game, and stop looking for excuses.

Not looking for excuses, and I realize our power play really sucks (I think I said that in my post, or at least I have in other posts this season). I also don't think we deserved to win either game this weekend, and I was kidding about the connection causing Dartmouth to get special privileges. However, I did find it annoying (and slightly odd) that the refs would take the time to joke around with the coaches mid-game; I haven't seen that before. And I did think the refs treated Cornell a bit unfairly, considering some of the absolutely blatant calls that were missed.

Hope that message clarifies my point :) Wasn't trying to cause trouble.

(I only saw 1 door open in the penalty box area).

Actually our penalty box is not next to the scorer's table like the other one; it's next to our bench in front of C. There's a red telephone so the penalty box official can call Arthur.

On the topic of the scorer's table, has anybody heard anything about the PA system? As in, are they trying to fix it? It sounds awful! Plus there's the constant static/scratching/beeping that goes on throughout the game. It's just audible enough that it's driving me crazy.

It sounded like a speaker got blown out. At some point during the SUCKS game, they turned that one speaker off but I could barely make out anything the announcer was saying in A. They turned it back on, and it was easier to understand the announcer. Still, it clicks every half a second and is very annoying.

Those speakers must be really expensive and hard to get to, but I expect it to get fixed by next home game, since they have plenty of time.
