Where else to stay

I was just working on a web site update for a friend's bed & breakfast, and realized I should share the link here!

For those of you visiting Ithaca for upcoming hockey weekends, I encourage you to look at The Coddington Guest House for a place to stay. (Sorry, Beeeej got dibs on my fold-out couch for the next couple of weekends.)

It's on South Hill, between Rogan's Corner and the Ithaca College campus, i.e. just a few minutes from Cornell or downtown Ithaca. Breakfast's included, and Denice has a variety of rooms that can accommodate anywhere from one or two people to a large group.

Yup! I'd feel bad about it, if it were my B&B or I stood to gain from people staying there. I guess I should add that my parents stayed there last summer and thought it was fantastic. (They're picky.)

Just out of curiosity, Mark, do you have a better picture of that B&B?

Don't know the entire history, but when I was in school, Coddington's (looks like the same building) was an Italian restaurant on South Hill. The menu was limited, but you'd get a huge bowl of pasta (about 5 choices of shapes) with your choice of sauce (meat sauce, tomato, clam, meatballs) for about $2.50. I probably ate there about 7 to 10 times and it was always excellent.

Yep, that's the place. Good country Italian. Nothing fancy.

Now known as "Angelina Centini's Italian Ristorante", it's still good, still Italian, and still at 124 Coddington Road - not the same place as the B&B. Bowls of pasta cost a bit more than $2.50 these days, but you needn't go hungry or broke.

I agree with Ken. It's good, and it's simple, and I never think of going there. Out of sight, out of mind, I guess. I don't think I've even got it in 14850 Dining.

In the years I lived in Ithaca (75-85), I never dined at the Coddington Restaurant. However, in the past few years, each visit to Ithaca includes a stop at "Angelina Centini's Italian Ristorante" Great food and a nice atmosphere (especially the outside dining))

What is the cheapest hotel in town (excluding the Hillside - sorry JTW - that place is just too sketchy! ) that you have found? Judy and I are now entering the "hotel in Ithaca" phase of our faithful experience as most of our friends are now gone (excluding a few in law school - but staying in a dorm room would be WAY TOO CRAMPED!). Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I am also an out of towner, but we (Beth and I) have taken advantage of the Holiday Inn's two for one deal in the past. Their nightly is normally around $120 but with the stay one night, get the second free it brings it down to a reasonable $60/night

The rate is not available year round, but the promo seems to run during the late fall/early winter.

Actually, for a double, the Econo Lodge can be a little cheaper than the Hillside if you have a discount (definitely AARP; maybe AAA). However, the Econo Logde is not halfway between the Chapter House and Hot Truck.

Hey Melissa, I would never ever ever pay what any hotel in Ithaca is asking on their website/phone line. Instead go to priceline.com and enter a bid of around $20-$30 a night on a 2 star hotel. The only hotel that priceline is aligned with in Ithaca is the Best Western, so you have a 100% probability of winding up there.

A great travel resource is www.biddingfortravel.com for those of you not familiar with it. This site gives you an idea of what others have bid on priceline for hotels in cities around the world, saving you both time and money.

P.S.-- And no, I wasn't a hotelie. Though I did enjoy the wines class quite a bit......
