Re: Cornell @ Clark - 12 years ago
carpy85 BearLover Honestly, they just suck. Almost no one on the entire team can contribute on both ends of the ice. Throw in a subpar year from Iles and idiotic penalties and it's not surprising they're at the bottom of the ECAC. I wouldn't be surprised if Ferlin and Lowry bolt after this season. Everyone this year is having a bad year except for Bardreau until he got hurt with a neck fracturby BearLover - Hockey

Re: Cornell @ Aints - 12 years ago
Jim Hyla When I looked at the penalty minutes, I was surprised we weren't worse off. I don't know how many 5 & 10's we have had, but subtract those (I only wish) and we would be very pedestrian in penalty minutes. I didn't see Lowry's penalty and have heard various thoughts about it. Was it on the video, if anyone was watching, and how was it described on the air? Anyone who says coach canby BearLover - Hockey
Re: Big Line-up Changes for Brown Game - 12 years ago
Towerroad Kyle Rose 6. Coaching - The coaching staff isn't reaching the players or effectively instilling in them the spirit of Cornell hockey. I'm not saying this is a problem, only that not including it in a list of potential problems is missing (or deliberately excluding) one of the more obvious inputs to a successful team. A lot of folks here are dodging the issue of accountability.Aby BearLover - Hockey

Great move Schafer! That really got the boys going.by BearLover - Hockey
Re: CU vs Yale - 12 years ago
The second line can't get back on defense. The 3rd and 4th lines can't do anything. Iles has been getting beaten way too often. I have never seen so many stupid penalties in my life. And the freshman class has really not contributed. These are classic problems that have not been in any way corrected as the season has progressed. The players are trying; at this point it has to be bad coachinby BearLover - Hockey

This has been a horrendous season thus far. No way around it.by BearLover - Hockey
Re: CU vs. Denver - 12 years ago
I have mostly just seen the home Lynah games. It is hard to notice everything, but I have seen MacDonald make a number of very good defensive plays. He also seems to jump up too far on the play less than D'agostino and Ryan. I am unsure why his +/- is so low. D'agostino has indeed been careless with the puck, but I think he is too talented to bench. Birch has been very solid and dependable dby BearLover - Hockey
Re: Bardreau to U.S. National Junior Team - 12 years ago
scoop85 Jim Hyla I just saw this article from Rochester D & C on Cole Bardreau and Team USA. Picked up via ECAC site. It would be great to see him make the final cut; Bardreau's really coming into his own, and he's a "glue" kind of player essential to any winning team. I enjoy watching that tournament, and it would be icing on the cake to have one of our own representing the USA.by BearLover - Hockey
Michigan-Cornell@MSG - 12 years ago
MSG has not been kind to the Red, but they've been one minute/one bad call away from winning their last two appearances there. It's difficult to overstate just how big this game is. It will be awesome being there. LGRby BearLover - Hockey
Re: Mouth @ Cornell - 12 years ago
Trotsky Jim HylaI've felt all along that our chances next year are much better.I feel like this is the year. Espo and Miller are exceptional players and losing them is going to hurt a lot. I am hoping for a Jack Parker type of season -- head-scratching losses and experiments until mid-January, then an SDJ. Birch and D'agostino are just as exceptional. (Especially Birch. Does anyone actuallyby BearLover - Hockey
Re: Mouth @ Cornell - 12 years ago
Oh, yes, I forgot to mention that both of Ferlin's penalties were in retaliation, not just one. And at least one of Mowrey's as well.by BearLover - Hockey
Re: Mouth @ Cornell - 12 years ago
Trotsky BearLover Another disappointment for a team that cannot afford too many more. They outplayed their opponent once again, but once again struggled to score. They also continue to take stupid penalties and don't clear their zone consistently. With that said, they were better than a 1 point team this weekend. Other than the Ferlin frustration penalty (where he got the first hack in for freby BearLover - Hockey

Re: Hahvahd @ Cornell - 12 years ago
Cornell lost due to any number of reasons, but lack of effort and intensity was not one of them. You could tell they were playing as hard as they possibly could the entire game. They must be incredibly frustrated right now, more than the seniors on this team can ever remember. Freshman year they won these games. Sophomore year they were legitimately mediocre. Junior year they had to wait forby BearLover - Hockey
Re: Hahvahd @ Cornell - 12 years ago
Cornell outplayed them, but a horrible turnover by D'agostino and a single incredible offensive play by Harvard swung the game in their favor.by BearLover - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Q - 12 years ago
...And for the third game in a row, Cornell heads into the 3rd period down 2-0. I disagree with the comment about the lack of hustle; I think they're hustling, they're just pressing too hard and taking bad penalties as a result. Many of their other penalties are inexcusable, such as Bardreau's check on a power play and basically everything De Swardt does. They think they're more skilled than tby BearLover - Hockey
Re: Cornell Alumni in the Pros: April 2012 - 13 years ago
billhoward Luke 05 As expected, Moulson balances Bitz out for Cornell sportsmanship and is nominated for the only award in professional sports with "Lady" in the name: >>> "With six penalty minutes, became the first player since Paul Kariya in 1996-97 to score at least 30 goals and have single-digit penalty minutes." Re: Lacrosse April 2012 - 13 years ago
Al DeFlorio Brown wins it 10-9 with a goal in last five seconds. Now it all depends on winning the Ivy tournament. Cornell is out if they don't win the Ivy Tourney?by BearLover - Other Sports
Re: 2012 TBRW Awards - 13 years ago
jtn27 Even though Esposito was clearly valuable to the team as evidenced by how they played when he was hurt, I don't think you can give the MVP to a guy that missed significant time. I would give it to Greg Miller for being the team leader in both goals and assists. Yeah, it's gotta be Miller. There should be a toughness award--Espo would certainly win that. Re: Season Review - 13 years ago
If you follow the players on Facebook/Twitter, it's pretty apparent that they're buying into the Big Red tradition and really appreciate Cornell hockey's history and following. While they are bummed out over the loss, all of them have posted about how great their run has been and seem more proud than upset, as they should be. Most of all, they are very sad to have to say goodbye to the seniors.by BearLover - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Ferris State In Progress - 13 years ago
snert1288 I'm curious whether we get D'Agostino back for next year. I know it's way to early to be thinking about, but I think he is a real asset to this team. I'd guess he'll be back. He's in line to be captain and he hasn't been incredible (ready for the NHL) by any means...he had a pretty slow end to this season.by BearLover - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Ferris State In Progress - 13 years ago
Good season, sad to see it end. The Red definitely could have won this game, and while Michigan looked better then Cornell last night, the boys looked no worse than their opposition tonight. Some bad luck and bad mistakes led to the Ferris State goals. Iles was down too early for the second goal and may have overplayed the first, but he played well as a whole throughout both games. css228 BearLover Add this to the list of ridiculously close games Cornell has played in the tournament in the last decade. Is this the only one they won in OT, though? No, a memorable regional final in '03 went to double overtime. Matt McRae made SportsCenter the next day. Indeedby BearLover - Hockey
