Re: 2025-2026 Women’s hockey schedule - 5 days ago
LetsGoTech16 Iv'e heard Cornell vs BC at Lynah on October 18th. Not sure if there is a home/home with that. Most schools with reputations (and worries about losing to Cornell at Lynah) would not sign on for a one-timer in Ithaca. They'd want a home-and-home. Unless this is the back to back of a series that started several years ago in Chestnut Hill. ... Nope, last BC-Cornell game was 2004 at theby billhoward - Hockey

At least Cornell has published part of the schedule, and ELF has added more dates. I still wish it was 100% official at this point. Better, by the end of May. We've been trying to plan fall and winter travel and didn't want to have conflicts. I thought other schools have been quicker to post. Great video! Shows Cornell is upping its publicity/outreach game via videos. Video has long ago blown by still photos as THE visual medium. My Cornell admittance was helped majorly by winning the NYS HS photographer of the year award. A half-century ago. Last-minute discounts to attend Syracuse Class of '29 - 8 days ago
NY Times article says Syracuse, riding a record wave of Class of 2029 applicants, may have been too stingy doling out financial aid. Too many admits chose elsewhere. And then Syracuse had to offer generous discounts post-May 1 to get desired candidates to decommit elsewhere. Not surprisingly, nobody at Syracuse is available for comment. The school currently stands at #73 on the US News ratings. Nby billhoward - John Spencer Is Dead

We need to talk to the players what they think about newer versus older facilities. Lynah at least has upgraded the locker rooms and training rooms and made them equal for both men's and women's teams. St. Lawrence has a beautiful old 2000 seat arena but with a big video scoreboard and an addition providing big and modern facilities, again for men and women, of importance because St. Lawrenceby billhoward - Other Sports

Trying to learn more about the size of Brown indoor turf field vs. Meinig Field House. Cornell's is listed as 91,150 SF, Brown at 76,000. For reference: Football field with end zones is 120 x 53.3 yards = 39,600 sf (1 acre = 43,560 sf) Field plus 20 feet on each side = 56,000 sf Cornell says the practice turf measures 360 x 180 ft = 64,800. Millman was .737 at Cornell in 2-1/2 seasons (including Covid 2020). At Hopkins, Millman .519 in 5 years. His mixed success at Hopkins suggests he might not be able to win at the highest levels consistently. I believe there is something special about Connor Buczek that got Cornell to the 2022 final and then to the pinnacle last month. I'd also like to have a Cornellian coaching. The new arenas are nice. The niceness, sight lines, TV sight lines, big concourses (that also add +500-750 fans to an othewise full house), the clubhouse-section-with-rink-view, more spacious bathrooms, alcohol sales to all over 21, those make Quinnipiac, RIT, Sacred Heart, Arizona State great places to watch hockey and sometimes I think that trumps the Lynah atmosphere. The rule about how many long sticks or wide nets applies to the whole field, not how many must be in the defensive half, so one more go on attack with a bigger stick isn't an infraction and anyway it's harder to shoot with long sticks or wide nets. The 1976 game was also excellent because overtime then was a pair of four-minute overtimes, not first-goal-wins. This is the more sensible way to settle a lacrosse match. Not just because Maryland got the first OT goal yet Cornell won by three. My fondest recall, other than coming back from that early deficit, was the final (I believe) OT goal where French and McEneaney both broke in on the Mby billhoward - Other Sports
