sah67 Byron Bitz will be playing on Boston's top line tonight against St. Louis, joining Marco Sturm in flanking the just-back-from-injury Marc Savard according to the Bruins gameday blog, Savard had this to say: Marc Savard "I like it," he told the Bruins' official Web site. ithacat Joakim Ryan, who's mentioned in the article linked above as having visited Cornell this past weekend, might also play in that tournament for Sweden. Ryan's from New Jersey but was once a top tennis prospect in Sweden. His mother is Catarina Lindqvist. Humm. Sounds like Murray, D., which is a good pairing with Bâby, S.by Swampy - Hockey
Re: Phillipe Hudon - 15 years ago
More on Hudon. He was projected as the #2 pick in the QMJHL draft for his age group, except he made known his plans to go NCAA. The QMJHL Draft Guide describes him as: QJMHL Draft Guide The No. 1 power forward available in the draft. He’s a very intense, hard-hitting player who has a terrific shot. He’s a big, strong player who goes straight to the net. Not a finesse player. A good skater, but sby Swampy - Hockey
Phillipe Hudon - 15 years ago
BRPH is reporting that Phillipe Hudon, at 6'1" and 195 b.1993 from Choate, has committed to Cornell for 2011. He was also being recruited by Yale, Vermont, BC, BU, Harvard, Michigan, and Princeton. His coach describes him as "the full package,” and USHR typecasts him by saying, "think Colin Greening." But perhaps the most enjoyable description to read is this one here .by Swampy - Hockey
Re: France's Fifth Down - 15 years ago
ugarte Josh '99 KeithK How about a third choice: "Who cares, it's only soccer". There's a wrestling discussion going on in one of the other threads and you're saying this about the World Cup? CORNELL Wrestling, you infidel. But in the context of a "fifth down," it is very apropos Cornell. D'ya think France will have as much class as we did?by Swampy - Other Sports

MB ... Our power play is looking pretty good, the PK not too bad, ... margolism After 3 games, Cornell ranked #1 in the country in OFFENSE. (6th in defense.) Also #1 on the power play. #1 is "pretty good," I'd say. Margolism, where did you get your stats? Can we find out how we rank in the PK?by Swampy - Hockey

Re: Entry Music - 15 years ago
TimVThat might be good for penalties and power plays. It's what they played at the first game I ever attended at Lynah. The guys skated around the rink, took shots at the wall and eventually on goal, and you just had this feeling that they were getting ready to rumble. It was very subtle, and oh, so effective. Psychologically, it must have worked, given that two of those teams won NC's.by Swampy - Hockey
Re: Entry Music - 15 years ago
TimVJacob '06's comment in the UND thread about the music in Englestad when The Sioux skate out made me think about some other great entry music. When Ned Harkness started the Union program in 1975 his team was composed entirely of freshmen, some admitedly long in the tooth. Josh '99ugarte2. Make sure that any high school basketball player who googles "harvard basketball" will find multiple posts detailing everything wrong with Tommy Amaker as a coach.Seems like a noble goal to me. Does anyone really doubt that Amateur will jump ship when a BCS-conference school (yes, I know the BCS is only for football) comes knocking on his door? Does anyone doubt thatby Swampy - Other Sports

pfibigerfatchance72 Sounds to me like if it's up to Kevin Prendergast, Riley will be back for his junior year. Here's an article that says he's "leaning toward" returning, but there's no actual quote about it from Riley, so who knows how much spin the author put on it. When did Nash become an alum? Re: Donahue and Holy Cross - 15 years ago
I can't see him leaving for Holy Cross. As the article says, it would be a lateral move at best. Next fall he'll have arguably the best team since he's been here, and they may even make some noise in their challenging OCS (Yes! Revenge against the Orange! ) or even the NCAA's. Unless injuries or defections cause a total disaster, he's sure to get better offers after that. I can definitely see hiby Swampy - Other Sports

Josh '99SwampyThis is truly shocking, although I suspect there's more to this than meets the eye. Re: Cornell-Syracuse Postgame - 15 years ago
Jim HylaSwampy From what I could see on my little TV screen, the Syracuse defenders were all lining up at the midfield stripe so that Moyer was hemmed in. Cornell's middies and attackmen should have gotten open in the offensive part of the field so Moyer had a someone to pass to. It wasn't all his fault but rather a general breakdown. It was all his fault that he did not just flip it downfield. Asby Swampy - Other Sports

Re: Cornell-Syracuse Postgame - 15 years ago
ugarteAl DeFlorioSounds like they discussed the "43 clear" during the 'Cuse time out but maybe they didn't talk about the "Gilman clear" (heave the ball far and high downfield) if someone was about to be trapped. Or maybe Moyer thought he was clear of Nims? It definitely sounds like they didn't discuss the "Gilman clear" and it is Coach T's biggest regret about howby Swampy - Other Sports

Re: WSJ Ivy League Sports Article - 15 years ago
The irony, IMHO, is that the article doesn't question the hypocrisy of the BCS schools in the money sports (F&B-ball). So many kids get chewed up in these "revenue sports," the schools make millions, and in return the players get four or five years at a university, sometimes even getting an education. The current scandal over Derrick Rose at Memphis is a good case in point. Even ifby Swampy - Hockey
Re: Lacrosse Recruiting at Cornell - 15 years ago
Al DeFlorioSwampyHockey, on the other hand, has power schools with much lower academics, and I'd be surprised if this didn't happen all the time at places like Minnesota. I think we should be careful to distinguish between what we surmise are a school's admissions standards for athletes and its "academics." By almost any academic measure the University of Minnesota is a top 25 universby Swampy - Other Sports
Re: Lacrosse Recruiting at Cornell - 15 years ago
RobbWederHow many lacrosse players actually get full scholarships? The NCAA limit is relatively low -- lower than it is for hockey, I'm pretty sure.I think you're allowed the equivalent of 12.5 (or so - I know it's not a whole number) full scholarships, and most D-1 rosters are 40+ players, so almost nobody gets a full ride. Re: Lacrosse Recruiting at Cornell - 15 years ago
Are people suggesting that Tambroni deliberately recruits diamonds in the rough rather than the high profile players? While a kid like Pannel is a great story -- too small to attract much attention until he shot up after a late puberty -- surely at least SOME of the highly ranked players are really deserving of their rankings. The fact that such players don't play well as a team at Virginia refleby Swampy - Other Sports
