Re: Harvard Big Red Boulevard - 18 days ago
stereax Personally, I tried to emphasize the crampedness of the Boulevard. Definitely felt like there wasn't enough space. The event itself was pretty fun - it's not meant to be something super intense, just a fun way to get into the mood and unwind before the game. I guess that's needed with all of the pre-game haunts in C-Town having closed.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey

redice stereax Just got a survey for the Boulevard experience - sharing here for anyone who was at the event! I assume it hit everyone's emails, but just in case. George64 billhoward Dafatone I'm torn on whether incentive to get to the game early will result in more people in seats at puck drop or fewer. Leaning fewer. Geez, you are the learned one. "Fewer" is the right wording for the context. But in a blue collar bar, you'd be outed in an instant. That and ordering a Courvoisier. I have sometimes checked myself and switched to "less&quoby jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Selling four tickets vs SLU, Saturday Feb 22 (senior night) - 22 days ago
Four tickets for sale; asking face value ($30/ticket). All four seats are together, so I'd prefer to sell them in blocks of four or at least two. Email jtw24 at cornell dot edu if interested.by jtwcornell91 - Ticket Exchange

Pep band song suggestion - 28 days ago
I can't find a more recent "it would be really cool if the band played X" thread, so I'll resurrect this one. Appropriately enough, the song I was just thinking might sound really cool in a pep band arrangement is from about the same era: PS--I would still love to hear a pep band version of "Message to You Rudy"by jtwcornell91 - Hockey

ugarte For something that hasn't been named, and because it's a goofy story, the comeback win against Ohio State in the first round of the 2005 NCAAs. I was doing who-knows-what that weekend and had to DVR both games. I think the early game in 2005 went to OT and my recording cut off with us still down 2-1. I didn't know the result until I started to watch the second round game. I held my bby jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Re: Ivy Football Postseason Football -- It's happening! - 7 weeks ago
Scersk '97 Chris '03 ugarte upprdeck Ivy's play less games. They may come up with tiebreakers and also play a Championship game.they are almost certainly not going to play a championship game. they are already adding to the season with the FCS tournament and there is no way of knowing in advance of the season if there is going to be a tie to break. i hope they choose H2H for a two-team tie iby jtwcornell91 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell at Harvard 11/16 - 2 months ago
ER I remember full periods too of OT from when I was a student bc I remember some games being really long but I could be wrong. Was a long time ago. Could it be that you have memories of playoff games mixed in there? 5 (or 10) minutes OT vs 20 minutes is an important distinction for long-game purposes because you have to resurface the ice for the latter and not for the former.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Al DeFlorio CU2007 David Harding arugula scoop85 Al DeFlorio Ken711 Cornell is going to wear special black uniforms for the game tomorrow against Harvard. Don't see changing the outcome, but it'll look cool. Not to me. Dumb. I’m with Al The Big Red since 1865 wearing black. Idiotic. Yeah, what's the point? Maybe recruiting. Kids eat that stuff up. chimpfood I think the black is sick and I would guess that the vast majority of the younger audience agrees. The older audience also agrees, but the word "sick" means something different to us.by jtwcornell91 - Other Sports
Re: hockey tickets on sale today - 4 months ago
fastforward jtwcornell91 fastforward Add in the $20 parking fee!! Still the best weekend of hockey! Wait, there's a parking fee now? There is a fee to park in the lot directly across from the entrance to the rink. There’s plenty of other places to park for free. Normally, the fee for most games is $10, but they do raise it for the Harvard weekend. It's been a few years since I've been toby jtwcornell91 - Hockey

So, as I wait for the timer to run out for the CCT/SLU weekend ... is there any way to find out the ticket prices before they actually go on sale? Seems like another annoying trend in sports business.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Re: Accommodations for North Dakota weekend Nov 1-2 - 4 months ago
Looks nice, although the location could be better. Close to Wegmans, I guess. We ended up making a reservation at the Embassy Inn on Dryden Road, which is also a bit far out of town, but was relatively cheap.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey

mike1960 Trotsky Just plant trees. I have always loved the end zone view of the trees leading down into the Cascadilla Creek gorge. Wrap that all the way around the west side of the stadium; it will be unique and bucolic, and one small step away from the increasing cluttering and uglification of the campus. A photo. Nothing beautiful about that side of the field. It actually looks slightly dby jtwcornell91 - Other Sports

I was in the process of making a reservation at the Best Western for the Clarkson-SLU weekend, and at the last step I realized what I thought was the total cost for two nights was actually the cost per night. Yikes! RIP Hillside Inn.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Re: Admittance standards for foreign students/athletes - 4 months ago
Cop at Lynah I was wondering what the difference is in the admittance standards for US citizens and foreign citizens. Do non US citizen students have to take SAT/ACT's ? Is there foreign standardize testing scores that are utilized ? I'm not sure about the SATs, but for graduate school, standardized tests (GRE, but presumably others as well) are a fairly straightforward way for internationalby jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Be careful with the volume: For context, Surrey came in to bat on the last day needing 221 runs to beat Somerset. Since Surrey entered the match with a game and a half lead in the standings over second-place Somerset and two games to go after this one, they decided to play for a draw. This meant avoiding losing the ten wickets (i.e., ten batters getting out) that Somerset needed to win,by jtwcornell91 - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Cornell vs. HK Nitra - 5 months ago
cbuckser I wouldn't expect Cornell, Sparta Praha, Karlovy Vary, or Nitra to be at the top of its game in early- to mid-August, and they weren't. Although the European pro season starts earlier. A number of teams are already playing exhibition games, and opening day is September 16 in Switzerland and September 19 in Germany, for example.by jtwcornell91 - Hockey
Re: Cornell vs. HK Nitra - 5 months ago
arugula Fwiw these were all professional teams in the highest division in the countries with older players. I noticed at least a few ex NHLers amongst their rosters. So they were good opponents. HC Sparta Praha ("I believe when you're speaking English, you're allowed to refer to it as Prague." finished second in the Czech Extraliga (and lost in the semis) last year, so they're playiby jtwcornell91 - Hockey

Re: Mike Schafer retiring 2025 - 7 months ago
RichH David Harding Swampy The university should consider retiring Mike's jersey number, not because of his HOF achievements in the NHL but because of his extraordinary, lifelong contribution to Cornell Hockey. Totally agree on retiring his jersey number. They probably ought to let Jack O'Brien play his last two years trying to live up to the Schafer standard, then retire #3. Un-retby jtwcornell91 - Hockey
