Re: 2024-10-26 UT @ Cornell - 6 weeks ago
Fun little nugget from the game notes: Cornell has now gone 25-0-2 in its last 27 exhibition games. The Big Red's last EX loss was back in 2009, and the opposing goaltender was... Andy Iles (US Under-18 team)by Give My Regards - Hockey

Jim Hyla Thanks I always smile when I have to pick whether I'm an Adult or Senior I'm glad to hear the two are mutually exclusive. I'm getting darn sick of adulting.by Give My Regards - Hockey

Trotsky RichHWe swept UND at the Ralph in Jan 2022. Both games were comebacks. That was also the de facto 2020 national championship, with Cornell having been ranked #1 in the polls at the end of 2020 and North Dakota #1 in the PWR then.by Give My Regards - Hockey

Chris '03 adamw Trotsky BearLoverI just got scooped…by scoop! Seriously, I was in the middle of typing out a very similar post. I agree with much of what you said. I’m not sure how it would work regarding the goalie situation—will the Cornell coaches hold one of them back in juniors? Frankly, whoever comes next year will just be waiting behind Shane anyway, so I don’t think it makes much sense frby Give My Regards - Hockey

Trotsky I knew about the 5th year. But I thought it had to do time lost to COVID. Not counting time played during COVID is seriously weird to me. I may just have mentally blocked it out as absurd, like MLB extra innings a d professional allowed in the Olympics. TBH I didn't know this either until I read an article on Caitlin Clark which claimed she is eligible to come back for a fifth seasonby Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: ECAC Early and Grad Departures 2024 - 8 months ago
George64 Hypothetically, could a non-Ivy athlete practice with his team for one year, but not compete, then compete in his final three years, graduate on time, and then use his remaining eligibility to play for one year while working towards his MBA? Essentially, “red shirting” for the academically competent athlete. Would athletic “scholarships” carry over to grad school? Just wondering. Thisby Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: ECAC Early and Grad Departures 2024 - 8 months ago
There is also something called a "medical redshirt", separate from the traditional redshirt. If an athlete suffers a season-ending injury before the halfway point of that season, and if they have played in no more than some small fraction of the team's games/meets/whatever (I think it's 25%), then they can get an additional year, even if they've already had the traditional redshirt. Trotsky This is the day Our life will surely change This is the day When things fall into place Today is my birthday. Not that anyone should care, except that... the only other time Cornell has ever played a game on my birthday was... ... the 2003 quarterfinal win over BC.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Lake Placid-2024 - 8 months ago
andyw2100 Seven for me too. (Same seven as Greg.) But can any of you say you've seen Cornell win the title with three different wives? (This was Kim's first, though she was with me in AC at least once and in Lake Placid at least three times before this year.) My girlfriend in 1986 was my wife in 1996 and 1997. I was in Albany in 2003 by myself. Wife number two was with me in Albany in 2005by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: ECAC Semifinal - Dartmouth - 8 months ago
jeff '84 Larry72 underskill Is the 5 pm start time accurate? CHN says 730 So says Pierre! Pierre and now the USCHO game summary says that Saturday game is “set for Saturday at 5 pm EDT.” Everything else is still saying 7:30 puck drop. Maybe weather related time change? ECAC Site says 5 PM.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Harvard @ Cornell Saturday - 8 months ago
I'm on a zoom with the people I work with and one of them went to his first-ever Cornell hockey game Saturday night with his wife and two kids, both of whom are less than two years old. His attitude about the cussing was, "well they're going to hear it anyway at some point, what's the difference? We're already seeing guys beat each other up on the ice." He was surprised at Coach Schaby Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Harvard @ Cornell Saturday - 9 months ago
Trotsky IIRC one of the two ties we got during The Troubles (0-10-2) would have been a win but the eejits cost us a penalty and Harvard scored the tying goal on powerplay. The one I can still remember was '95, the last one of that streak, when somebody heaved a fish onto the ice at the start of the second period. Minor was called and announced, and then Arthur read the no-throwing-things annouby Give My Regards - Hockey

Apropos of nothing, and I suspect y'all already knew this, but I've been trying to figure out why the name Cooper Black sounded so darn familiar. I thought it might be a company that makes power tools -- turns out it's a font.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: 2024 ECAC Pemutations - 9 months ago
And now, the wall of text: Once again, it’s the ECAC Playoff Permutations! Although it may seem that Quinnipiac wrapped up the regular-season title months ago, the Bobcats didn’t officially clinch the #1 seed until last Friday night. This leaves Cornell and Colgate to fight it out for second, while the rest of the league is the usual mess. Going into the final week of league play, hby Give My Regards - Hockey
2024 ECAC Pemutations - 9 months ago
Here we go, first the short version: Possible ECAC tournament seedings (the number in parentheses is the best seed the team can get with no help): Quinnipiac 1 (1) Cornell 2-3 (2) Colgate 2-3 (3) Dartmouth 4-8 (4) Clarkson 4-7 (5) Union 4-9 (6) St. Lawrence 4-11 (7) Harvard 5-12 (8) Princeton 6-12 (8)by Give My Regards - Hockey

Re: Cornell @ Clarkson, 2/23 - 9 months ago
Trotsky jtwcornell91 Do they still have an electric bass player with an amp? (Also not "piped in", but amplified at least.) The only electric bass I remember was at RPI during their national title run. It was awesome. Dunno if they still do, but Clarkson definitely had an electric bass player for a few years, maybe several. The guy travelled, too.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Yale at Cornell, shrouded in mystery - 9 months ago
Stark looked like he had a very good game, aside from the shootout. I just hope he doesn't spend the rest of his career being that pain-in-the-ass goalie.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: ECAC 2024 Discussion Thread - 10 months ago
ursusminor After Friday, you will know that RPI doesn't have much power, and the penalty kill is at the bottom of the NCAA. In other words, exactly the kind of team that Cornell fans should be worried about at this point.by Give My Regards - Hockey

adamw The Rancor What is the back story here? I remember Walsh getting popped for taking money from boosters. Was Kariya also? I don't recall anything about Walsh taking money from boosters. And even if he did, I don't think that's against any rules. Walsh did take some money from boosters while he was on a five-game unpaid suspension, despite specifically being told by the university NOTby Give My Regards - Hockey

I'd sure like to know where ESPN+ got the idea that Cornell was 11-4 in the ECAC. The women are 12-5, maybe that sort of explains it.by Give My Regards - Hockey
