Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Opponent and other news and results of interest 2024-2025 - 2 days ago
Dunno how interesting this is, and it's probably been covered somewhere else, but Minnesota State became the first team to clinch an NCAA bid (the CCHA auto-bid) last night. The CCHA championship game isn't until Friday, but MSU's opponent in that game will be St. Thomas, which as part of their transition from D-III to D-I is ineligible for the D-I tournament until next year. So, win or lose,by Give My Regards - Hockey

Trotsky Jack Parker did this with the lead once IINM. Deliberate too many men penalty to force a stoppage and a face off. Got away with it, too. I'm sure you're right, but man, that sounds like Shawn Walsh.by Give My Regards - Hockey

Scersk '97 Once upon a time, there was an awful hockey tournament held at the War Memorial in Syracuse called the Syracuse Invitational Tournament. Close, but awful. ECAC insiders called it the Syracuse Hockey Invitational Tournament. The kind of place where their PA system fails, so the Cornell fans have to lead others in singing the national anthems a cappella. We were up watching us play Prby Give My Regards - Hockey

RichH toddlose Chris '03 With Dartmouth’s sweep, this game is officially Union’s last win at Messa/Achilles. Wasn’t their first ecac league win at lynah? I could be imagining this. Yes. One of 2 wins the entire season for them. They’ve always had some sort of voodoo over us. It was actually their second league win; they had beaten Dartmouth a few weeks earlier.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: ECAC Quarterfinals at Colgate - 3 days ago
Snowball That was so dumb of Colgate to shove Psenicka right in front of the referee. Not necessarily, it put Cornell on the power play. (Sigh)by Give My Regards - Hockey

upprdeck So why did he have to leave the ice then and have Desantis sit in the box? Game misconduct. He was done for that game but it doesn't carry over.by Give My Regards - Hockey

RichH Hey, RPI made the playoffs every year with Smith at the helm, I don’t know what more they want. Not in 2021 they didn't.by Give My Regards - Hockey

And now the long-form: Going into the final week of league play, here's a breakdown of where each team in the ECAC could finish. For each ECAC team, I've listed the following: THIS WEEK: The team's games this week, its last two of the season. ON THEIR OWN: The highest the team could finish with no help from the competition. Generally, this involves a sweep in regulation. BESTby Give My Regards - Hockey

Because you asked for it (well, one of you did anyway), it's this year's ECAC Playoff Permutations! First, in brief: Possible ECAC tournament seedings (the number in parentheses is the best seed the team can get with no help): Quinnipiac 1-2 (1) Clarkson 1-3 (2) Union 2-6 (3) Colgate 2-6 (3) Dartmouth 3-7 (5) Cornell 3-7 (6)by Give My Regards - Hockey

The Rancor The USCHO standing columns of wins, losses, ties, OTW, OTL, SOW, SOL is exactly the argument for going back to Win, Loss, Tie period. But ties are the devil's work! They must be cast out!by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Cornell could finish... - 21 days ago
adamw It's listed that way because in LEAGUE standings, shootout and OT is the same. There is a whole other column on our standings page that lists national records - right next to the league records. And our Pairwise page and everywhere else shows the national record. True, and I should have specified that my issue is with how the league standings are presented, because shootout and OT are notby Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Cornell could finish... - 21 days ago
andyw2100 Is it only regulation wins that count in the tiebreaker? I'm guessing it must be because you say that Cornell, currently with 9, would catch Union, currently with 11, even though Union would be picking up the shootout win. Regulation and overtime wins. Shootout results are not considered in the tiebreaker. andyw2100 Also I'm wondering about the 9 regulation wins for Cornell. CHN sby Give My Regards - Hockey
Cornell could finish... - 22 days ago
... dare I say it ... third. Granted, it's an even less likely scenario than someone getting a B-minus at Harvard, but it is a possibility. Current standings: 3. Union 37 Plays Cornell and Colgate Colgate 37 Plays at RPI and at Union 5. Dartmouth 33 Plays at Brown and at Yale Cornell 33 Plays at Union and at RPI (note that Unionby Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: ECAC 2025 - 22 days ago
This is correct. Cornell is at 21 points and done with the Ivy schedule, while Dartmouth is at 18 with the two games remaining, and no other Ivy team is in the running.by Give My Regards - Hockey

Re: Cornell vs Clarkson 02/21 - 24 days ago
Losing sucks. This was not a moral victory or any other kind of victory, it was a loss. Zero points. And losing sucks. That said, yes, there were significant stretches of the game where Cornell did outplay Clarkson. OK, the power plays were not really part of those stretches (what else is new?) but they did a pretty good job in their own end for the most part, and generated more than a fewby Give My Regards - Hockey

In terms of gap, the 2012-13 coaches' poll put the Big Red second; they finished ninth. I don't think the gap is going to be quite that big this year. In the other direction, in 1995-96 (Coach Schafer's first year), the coaches put Cornell ninth; they finished fourth in a very strong ECAC and proceeded to win the championship. Ah, memories.by Give My Regards - Hockey

Trotsky adamwJust to help Trotsky from believing - Cornell has no shot at an at-large bid. Good. Now I can concentrate again. Aww, no more pictures?by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: ECAC 2025 - 30 days ago
It's too early to worry about tiebreakers -- but what the hell. If Cornell beats Union in regulation, the teams would be even head-to-head, so it would go to league wins. Currently Union is +2 there.by Give My Regards - Hockey
Re: Cornell at Yale 2/15 - 30 days ago
adamw Although my personal opinion is that it wouldn't be terrible from a team building standpoint to play two gimme home games before getting to the meatier quarterfinals. So if they're playing well, but fall short of 4th, it's not so bad. If you're talking about hosting the first round of the playoffs, that's one game.by Give My Regards - Hockey
