Re: 2024-12-07 at Colgate - 4 days ago
The biggest contributing factor to our disappointing first part of the season -- besides injuries -- has been our specialty teams. Our power play, which has been better as of late, still ranks 52nd in the country, while our penalty kill ranks 54th. We easily could have won a few more games with better results from those units. We also haven't received consistently elite goaltending from Shane. Hby dbilmes - Hockey
Atmosphere (or lack of it) at Lynah - 5 days ago
I made it up to Lynah this past weekend for the first time since pre-pandemic. While I was glad that we won the game Friday night against Colgate, I left the rink slightly disappointed. The atmosphere just didn't live up to my expectations and memories of previous home games. First of all, the student sections were great. They eventually filled in, and did a great job with the cheers, chants, etby dbilmes - Hockey

scoop85 chimpfood You have to remember that this is cogate’s huge rivalry weekend even though it isn’t for us. It is the one time of year that they play away in front of a big crowd and the one time that their fans actually come out to their barn. It’s gonna be really hard to get a sweep this weekend because this is pretty much their season. However, if they have finals it would surely reduce tby dbilmes - Hockey

Iceberg Yeah, that was a tight game and good on Dartmouth for keeping it close. BC is a very good team but I'm not so sure they're good enough to be #1 overall. That has to be because of the strength of HEA this year BC is a perfect 36-for-36 on the penalty kill to start the season.by dbilmes - Hockey

Cornell beat RIT, 5-2, Tuesday night. Cornell was ahead 3-0 and completely dominating the game until taking some ill-advised penalties in the second period. RIT scored once on a 5-on-3 advantage and then again on the ensuing 5-on-4 advantage, and all of a sudden it was one-goal game. But Cornell added two power play goals in the third period to seal the game. Cornell outshot RIT 33-12, and afterby dbilmes - Hockey

Cornell rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period on Friday to tie Quinnipiac, 3-3. Cornell had a chance to win the game in OT after Q was called for too many women on the ice, but we couldn't score on the power play. Q had a power play for the final 30 seconds or so. For what it's worth, Cornell won the shootout, 2-1. Another tough road game Saturday at 3 in Princeton.by dbilmes - Hockey

This quote from Schafer sums it up: “It’s hard to explain,” Schafer said. “We just have no connection with each other on the forecheck, we have no connection coming out on breakouts, we have no connection on the power play, and that’s my job. My job as a coach is to get them connected.”by dbilmes - Hockey

Cornell dominated the Ivy Awards. Alex Harris becomes the first Cornell player to be named Offensive Player of the Year (he was actually co-Offensive Player of the Year, sharing that honor with Penn's Stas Korzenkiowski). Both Harris and Connor Miller were unanimous first-team All-Ivy selections. Ryan Friedberg, Andrew Johnson and Alioune Ka were also on the first team, and Aidan Martin was naby dbilmes - Other Sports

After 27 years in Division I, AIC is dropping back to Division II after this season. Sources told College Hockey News the program was being dropped back to D-II because of "budgetary issues and the changing landscape of NCAA athletics." According to AIC’s latest EADA filing, men’s hockey had the highest expenditures of any non-football team at the school, totaling $1,773,427.by dbilmes - Hockey

Weder Pretty good results for Cornell with Rory Guilday and Karel Prefontaine not in the lineup. I wasn't able to watch any of the games this past weekend. Does anyone know the seriousness of Guilday's injury? Having both her and Prefontaine out of the lineup would explain why we are having so much trouble scoring goals.by dbilmes - Hockey

The local paper had an in-depth feature on Yale coach James Jones, who is starting his 26th year as their coach. Since the article has a paywall, instead of posting a link I will post a few of the more interesting parts. Only Greg Kampe of Oakland and Tom Izzo of Michigan State have been running the same Division I men’s program for longer than Jones and Gonzaga’s Mark Few, also entering his 26tby dbilmes - Other Sports

We have our final two games at home, and winning one of those games should get us into the Ivy Tournament, where hopefully we can turn the tables on Penn if we play them. We play Harvard next week, and they are battling Dartmouth and us for the final two spots in the Ivy tourney. We finish against Columbia, which is 1-3-1 in the Ivies and 1-10 overall. Meanwhile, Dartmouth and Harvard play each oby dbilmes - Other Sports

Canadian college athletes can't benefit directly from NIL: However, one group has been left out of the process entirely: international students. Despite making up nearly 12.8 per cent of all Division 1 NCAA athletes and 14 per cent of basketball players, foreign student-athletes are mostly unable to profit from NIL. That includes Canadians, who represent far and away the most NCAA athletesby dbilmes - Hockey

scoop85 ugarte After the slow start against Mercyhurst, the #12 Red beat #13 Penn State 2-0. Only 1 goal before an empty netter. Strange, considering we should have a sufficient amount of offensive talent. It is early though. It's not that strange considering the team is still adjusting to the absence of Izzy Daniels, who was the Player of the Year in women's hockey last season.by dbilmes - Hockey
Re: Cornell wrestling recruiting… - 7 weeks ago
Oklahoma State is definitely giving its wrestlers NIL funding, although it's hard to say how much. Here's another example, from two years ago. The NCAA did, though, refuse to allow the Oklahoma State football team to display QR codes on their helmets with a link for fans to donate to that team's NIL fund.by dbilmes - Other Sports

We totally controlled play against Colgate but we let them tie the game at 1-1 early in the second half on some poor defensive play before getting back on track. Colgate came out really packing the defensive zone, but we eventually wore them down. The Colgate announcers were terrible. In the first half, whenever Cornell had the ball there was virtually no play-by-play with individual players beiby dbilmes - Other Sports

When I called the Harvard ticket office last month, they told me tickets for the Cornell game would go on sale at 10 a.m. on Oct. 1, and that's what their website said when I checked it again last week. As noted above, the only tickets they are selling now are standing room tickets for $40 apiece (not including any service charges). Harvard sucks even more than usual!
