Understand that the Cornell football team will be switching sides of the field at home games-that is the Pressbox side. Maybe trying to switch their luck?

Shaping up nicely. I assume the staff is still working on bringing in at least 1 QB in the class and probably adding more DBs and WRs.

I agree scoop. There is only one Soph QB on the current roster this year (no Junior QB) into Wang and the other Senior QBs.. It's surprising that Archer brought in no QBs that class that would be a Junior now.
There is one QB in the incoming freshman class that I know of, so unless there's another incoming freshman QB that I haven't seen, that's an area that needs at least 2 QBs in the 2029 class.

Another big time pick up from Florida. Cornell has more recruits from talent rich Floria this year than I can ever remember in past years combined.
Dalten Phelan LB 6'2" 225 Orlando, FL. Offers: Air Force. Army, Bucknell, Columbia, Dartmouth, Eastern Illinois, Georgetown, Marshall, Navy, North Carolina A&T and Penn

What about any news of Cornell stealing the players with offers from William & Mary and from Lafayette, top 20 FCS schools with academic underpinningS? Or from the big time FBS schools (a la Michigan) with academic underpinnings? (Um, found Michigan, Notre Dame, USC, Penn State, Ohio State, also Tulane, where you could get a very good education, but I don't think the players have to follow that must-go-to-class track. Maybe at Tulane, top 25 D1 FBS HM.) So we're grabbing some players from schools at our aspired football level but not taking pro prospects away from the tippy top schools. Hey, anything is an improvement. Dare we hope to finish sixth?Ken711

I wonder how recent demonstrations at Columbia, Penn and Hahvad will impact their yields? At Cornell, the egregiously offending student has pled guilty and the “exhilarated” faculty member took a leave of absence. Students who originally sought an urban university, might have second thoughts.
As I speculated several months ago, maybe football players, along with other students, had second thoughts about Columbia and Penn, but apparently not Hahvad. It will be interesting to see how overall yields played out once the common data sets are published.
BTW, a federal judge on Monday sentenced Patrick Dai, who posted antisemitic threats, to 21 months in prison. He said that although Dai is troubled by mental health issues, he should stay imprisoned because of the violent nature of the cybercrime and the upheaval it caused on campus.

WOW. I Know Kansas and Indiana are not Oklahoma State and Penn State, but that’s still a QB recruit with Big 12 and Big 10 offers. That must be basically unheard of at Cornell.

Saw article on one of Cornell's 2029 recruiting class that sounds promising.
Cornell commit John McAuliffe, Marist get past IC Catholic
Scoring points hasn’t been a problem this season for Marist.
That trend continued in Week 5 as the Redhawks traveled to Elmhurst and defeated IC Catholic 34-26 in a CCL/ESCC crossover.
Through the first five games of the season, Marist, which improved to 4-1 overall, tallied 148 points, good enough for an average of 29.6 per outing.
Having a running back the caliber of John McAuliffe certainly helps.
The Cornell commit was at his best against the Knights, carrying 32 times for 211 yards and four touchdowns. The 6-foot, 200-pound senior added a fifth TD on a 41-yard pass from quarterback Jacob Ritter.
“John runs with a lot of heart and passion,” Marist coach Mike Fitzgerald said. “He’s our captain. The guys believe in him. He wants the ball in his hands in important situations.
“He runs hard, he’s tough to bring down but he also has breakaway speed as well. And our O-line was a big part (of McAuliffe’s success).”

I believe the Indiana offer was from a few years ago, before his recruiting profile dipped some. But his offer from Kansas was in July 2024, so he seems like a legitimate D1 recruit.

It'll be interesting to see who takes over for Wang. Starting a freshman at QB on game one of next season would be rare, perhaps later in the season. I feel it will be a battle between juniors Garrett Bass-Sulpizio and Devin Page.

the fact that i do not recall either name makes me think it's not out of the question that we have a 4-year starterKen711

Page transferred from Penn, so he has history with Swanstrom. And, his older brother is a starter on the O-line. No idea though if he is starter material.

Because Wang was so durable, never missing a start this season, the backup QBs were virtually unseen. Whomever replaces Jameson next season will hopefully have a stronger running attack to depend on.

Yes, job one: establish a running game.
I'm not hoping for Dan Marino. I just hope we can coach a guy to read the defenses and throw an accurate ball in a West Coasty type offense.

Speaking of the running game, Penn's super sophomore and this season's Ivy League rushing leader with nearly 1,200 yards, running back Malachi Hosley has entered the transfer portal.

Older brother (now with Packers) committed to SU under Shafer. Shafer was replaced by Babers, brother switched to BC. Noah’s 1st D1 offer was from Babers, who was replaced by Brown. SU just can’t get one of those McDuffies. There is also a cousin currently at Kansas, via UB and Georgia Tech. I don’t know if there’s any more Buffalo McDuffies in the pipeline or if they’ll have to wait for the next generation.

Fwiw, college recruiting site 247Sports awarded 6 Cornell 2025 commits two or three stars. From 2020-4, only 1-3 Cornell commits were awarded stars. Does seem our recruiting has meaningfully improved.

It certainly appears so. As Coach Swanstrom has stated in many of his interviews, the players have to improve their overall strength and conditioning. I'm hopeful they will having a dedicated strength and conditioning coach for football.

Comeback Player of the Year: Ryan Downes, QB, Sarasota Booker, Sr.
Coming off a horrific leg injury from the 2023 season, Downes goal was to play the first preseason game against Cardinal Mooney to begin 2024. Not only did the Cornell signee do that, Downes was able to lead the Tornadoes back to the state semifinals behind a superb season throwing the rock. Downes ended the season completing 105-of-146 passes (71 percent) for 2,302 yards and 26 touchdowns. For someone who wasn't sure about a year ago if he would ever play football again, we think this is a pretty easy pick.

Downes has had quite a journey. I’m presently reading “Guilty Admissions”, a book about the “Varsity Blues” scandal. In discussing ringleader Rick Singer’s ties to IMG Academy, the author mentions that Downes (who previously attended IMG) was seen as a QB prodigy and received his first D1 offer at the age of 13.

Last highly-regarded, highly-recruited QB commit was Harley Kirsch, who developed rhabdomyolysis and never took a varsity snap. Let's hope for better luck this time.

You can check the Twitter player tweets that Cornell is putting out today on incoming recruits against the names on the list at the top of thread. There was a tweet he deleted about his decision to switch, but he updated his bio as a Big Red commit. Hopefully some other FBS school doesn't swoop in and grab him before he enrolls at Cornell.

Samuel Musungu who was second team All-Ivy as a sophomore is returning as far as I know. Cornell's top four receivers from last season should all return. Settling on a QB replacement for Wang will be Cornell's biggest challenge. There are some really good running backs recruits that I hope can develop into starters quickly to balance the offense and take the pressure off whatever QB is settled on as the starter.

I didn’t find any highlights for John McAuliffe, but Josiah Allen’s tape is impressive. Shows great vision, balance, and breaks tackles—something we’ve been lacking for awhile. HS highlights don’t always translate to college production, but he looks like a guy who can be in the mix early.

For someone who in his heart believes he's all-league but not NFL, a career does count. Be nice to have Deep AI correlate % of athletes in Johnson School vs. relative % of overall student body. I suspect there is a disproportion of athletes - academically qualified athletes - in the Johnson School.
Or Josiah Allen just gets the vibe Cornell football is on the upward swing. And if you're from Florida, well, Ithaca is a tad bit warmer than Hanover.

Greek Peak a half-hour away from Cornell was holding its own this week, helped by the weekend snow and below-freezing weather. If you haven't seen it in 25 years, there are now a lot of condos across the highway for people who want a summer/winter place. Although to be sure there's a lot to be said for Vermont/New Hampshire/Adirondacks skiing. The land immediately around Greek Peak is not that scenic.

Bristol Mountain outside Canandaigua has 1200 feet of vertical to 950 feet for Greek Peak. But it's 90 minutes from Cornell vs. 30 minutes. Neither is Whiteface or Killington or Stowe, but for all the Eastern resorts, what the Rockies call ice, the Northeast ski areas call packed powder. Learn in the Northeast, you can ski anyplace in the Rockies. An adult ticket at GP is now $120 but deep discounts (<$50) for some midweek days.

Cornell just received a commitment from an Air Force running back Jordan Triplet. Triplett rushed for an astounding 9,028 rushing yards at Frederica Academy in Saint Simons Island, Ga. – a total that is tops in Georgia High School history and included 3,172 as a senior. Averaged 7.2 yds per carry, 126 TDs.
Coach Swanstrom is doing an amazing job recruiting, something I've only seem happen at Harvard, Princeton and Yale bringing in recruits with FBS offers.

When Ed Marinaro '72 was on the cover of Sports Illustrated, the story noted his total yards rushing (4881) were Ivy League yards but a scout told SI, "That's a lot of yards even against tackling dummies." So, Jordan, bring it on.Ken711

That's true Bill. What's amazing to this day is that Marinaro set that rushing record in 27 games (when freshman weren't allowed to play varsity and the Ivy League played 9 game seasons).

Right:
Marinaro, career 27 games, 4715 yards, 175 yards per game
1971, 9 games, 1881 yards (hit 1,000 in fifth game), 209 yards per game, average 40 rushes per game
This sounds like a red state / blue state thing, just 50 years back: Heisman votes were reported by region. Marinaro was the top vote getter in every region but one, and Auburn QB Pat sullivan was second. Except in the South, where Sullivan was No. 1 in votes and Marinaro was left off a lot of ballots. Sullivan won the Heisman. Like Marinaro, he was a second-round NFL draft picked and played six pro seasons. Died of cancer in 2019.

Good article on incoming QB recruit Ryan Downes's journey from a devastating injury to back playing his senior year of high school football.

The transfer from Air Force. Am surprised that the Academies are allowed to redshirt. Was it injury related? Otherwise looks like a good recruiting class plus the transfers from James Madison and Wake Forest respectfully.

It was there yesterday. I suspect they are in the process of updating the football webpage to include the article on the new recruits and also update the roster as well.

Thanks. They have a typo on LB Michael Taylor. He's 6'2 225 or 230, not 280.
They just updated his correct weight.
