Milliman had a good weekend, with Penn State beating Georgetown and Dordevic.

Cornell now ranked #2.

Hopkins, not Penn State.

Inside Lacrosse is reporting that Maryland goalie Logan McAnaney, who was the biggest single reason Maryland beat us in last year’s NC game, is out for the season with an ACL injury.

Thanks. I'll see them play UAlbany on Saturday. Anybody else going?

I will be watching from far away on my computer. The one time I went a few years ago, I think my legs turned to icicles from sitting in the stands too long. And that was in March

It was an area that hurt us last year (46% wins) although Petrakis gained key possessions in important games down the stretch. Let's hope this becomes a strength for us this year.

It seems like the camera person does not understand the game of lacrosse. S/he is always a few seconds behind the play, although we do get a good look at the substitutions at mid field.

They look like they've been practicing together for just a couple of weeks. Lots of questionable passes, as ugarte says, several in the dirt. Also defensive lapses and too many shots not on goal. Last year, Connor did a great job with the team coming out the half. Let's see if he's still got the magic.

Interesting that there is no Ithaca-based radio today.

I’m also amused by how strong and deliberate the “UAlbany” branding is. Not “Albany.” UAlbany. On the signage. The broadcast graphics. The announcers never just say “Albany.” Yooalbany.

I guess they just don’t want to give anyone a chance to slip up and think “SUNY Albany.”

About the radio broadcast - I emailed WHCU's GM and learned that, due to an Ivy League deal with ESPN+, Cornell will no longer have WHCU broadcast CU Lacrosse games.
To say this is disappointing is huge understatement, as Barry along with Tom and/or Howie provided unparalleled play-by-play and expert commentary on the games. I'm sure many/most of us would listen to them while watching games on ESPN+. Their banter, analysis, and historical reflections about Coach Moran during the Rutgers rain delay last year were absolutely priceless.

Hopefully this will not extend to hockey next year.

Based on what the WHCU GM told me the broadcasters will be local for each team, so hopefully Barry will do our home games along with Tom and/or Howie - Jason Weinstein did them solo for ESPN+ last year, so we might not know until game time on Saturday. As another fan on the FanLax forum posted, another big loss is the pregame show with the coach interviews, matchups, etc.

So no radio for lax but radio for hockey?

the worst part of no radio to me is when driving during a game and not being able to listen.

But this isnt a WHCU issue this is a school issue.. the ADs allowed this? or else they wanted WHCU to pay a huge amount to get the rights.

Lots of sports on ESPN+ have radio broadcasts..

if only we had a new AD to complain too.

I’m guessing it’s a money issue as the school doesn’t want to pay for the radio broadcasts with the assumption most people are watching the stream. And I believe schools aren’t allowed to simulcast the ESPN+ broadcast on radio.

Isnt the radio station paying the schools to broadcast not the schools paying?

When you listen to games on XM its the school radio feeds you get and many of those same schools have espn+ feeds. its a different crew .

I would wonder how many locals have the ESPN+ feed. I know most people I know locally do not get espn+ but do listen to hockey on the radio.

Get the ESPN app on your phone, and listen to the play-by-play audio wherever you are.

I'm hoping Barry and Tom will be doing the ESPN call now that WHCU will not be.

But even so, I'm gonna miss those tart cherry juice ads ...

you can do that espn app but it will drain your phone pretty fast.. You likely can not listen to a whole game with it running since you have to use it with the video.

You also have to have decent internet since it forces you to be in 5g range for any of the newer phones.. if you have to do it with hockey almost no chance it works in lynah given the poor reception in there.

Even in Ithaca that are tons of dead zones in town trying to listen to a game on your phone..

And the same for a car.. If you sync it up you better have a way to plug it or it will be dead before you get some place and then the signal drops out all over the county.

Reminds me of my all time favorite in the Daily Sun--the second page of each article abberviated the names of the teams, too. Men's basketball was "MHOOPS", which meant women's basketball was "WHOOPS." :-P Not in the days of Jeomi Maduka, they weren't, but that was after I graduated.

Hmm...the CU sports information team needs to do a bit of proofreading. This is from the preview for the Lehigh game on Feb 25, 2023:

Last Meeting: Cornell won 9-5 on February 26, 2023 in Bethlehem, Pa.

If we win this year by the same score, then they just got the date wrong by a day, eh?

Cornell sports PR is not over-staffed. Mistakes are understandable. Still doesn't excuse the glitches.

If these people are journalists at heart, now or once upon a time, it must be soul-crushing to have to put a spin on, say, the league's second- or third-best team losing two fricking games at home. As for-instance.

It's even tougher for the sports information person who is responsible for the baseball team. I was reading the season-opening story on the Cornell website, which heralded the opening of the new field and the fact that most of Cornell's top hitters are coming back. Buried further down was the statistic that the pitching staff last year had an ERA of about 9.00. Buried even further down was the fact that Cornell was the preseason pick to finish last in the Ivies.

Lost - what’s happening?

My view is these are kids, don’t expect daily updates on their availability as if they play for the Yankees. Maybe I’m in the minority.

updating a guy isnt playing is different than saying whats wrong with him.

Wrestling had some guys people wondered about, Lax has some, Hockey had some.

We need to see better team defense today -- smart, vicious doubles and quick rotations and slides.

The offense looks much sharper than last week.

Looks like we borrowed the camera person from UAlbany.

The offense moved the ball much better today and made some nice shots. The Lehigh goalie kept this from being a blowout. Lehigh's zone defense gave the O a little trouble. Something to work on.

The Cornell D did not play well early, but after the half started bringing the tough slides and rotations and shut Lehigh down. Ierland the same: lost a couple early then started seeing the ball in the snowflakes.

We were dominated at the faceoff but the freshman Cascadden looks like he's ready to play. I'm excited about his future.

Kirst and Adler played great, as usual. Chris Davis was really good today also. He brings a lot of skills to the field.

The camera work was artistic and impressionistic. Finding the ball was often an adventure.

It was great hearing the call of Barry Leonard and Tom LaFalce.

Ivies certainly don't look as strong as last year. Will make league play all the more important, as we won't get as pronounced an RPI benefit as last year

As usual, I can’t get a score here on the lax Slack channel, and it literally takes 7 clicks (including activating all the drop-down menus) to get to it on the CU Athletics site.

It was 12-5 Cornell over Lehigh.

I guess I’ll just make a bookmark to the scoreboard of whatever replaced laxpower and then come here to vaguely reference how it went.

Faceoff today was not so bad. The Lehigh FOGO, one of the best in the nation, gets 60-65% routinely. Today he had 66%, so average. Petrakis has problems with violations, which he should be able to overcome, But he was OK against UAlbany's guy, and so was Psyllos. Cascadden matched up way better with Lehigh because of his size, was 5 wins and 6 losses against the guy. He should be a good one even now as a freshman. Overall, I think our situation at the dot is much better than last year.

Having Cascadden gives us a much better chance to match up against physically dominant FOGOs like Sisselberg, while Petrakis will have better days against different guys. Psyllos was smartly put on the wing and did a nice job there.

The sample size is a little small right now, but he did well against one of the best. As others said, he has good physical size, and he clearly also has good skills (technique) and mental toughness to twitch on the whistle. I also like that he was called for a push in the back penalty. I know penalties are not good, but it shows that he believes that the ball is his property, and he's pushing people around to get it, not vice versa.

IMHO, it will be his strength going side-by-side, shoulder-to-shoulder with his opponent, his quickness to the ball, and his skill (technique) getting the ball off the ground that will tell the tale.
