Kempf begins his pro career with a secondary assist 2:30 into his first game. It’s also the Landeskog return game.

Speaking of alums in the Colorado system: anyone know what’s going on Stienburg? Seems
like he barely played at all in the AHL this season, although according to his stats page, he did play on 4/2, which was apparently his first game since early November. Injury?

Taxi squad isn't a thing until the playoffs.

He had a significant injury earlier in the season. He talks about the road back a bit here: [x.com]

I'm pretty certain he still has a suspension to serve if he gets another shot in the NHL.

Malott vs. Malinski is on at the moment. In what is mostly a meaningless game for Colorado, they’re resting a lot of their top players, so Sam is getting time on the top power play unit.

I'm always behind but on Friday's 32 Thoughts they talked about Jacob MacDonald potentially joining Makar as the first ever NHL/AHL thirty goal scoring defenseman in the same organization.

A couple of weeks ago they talked about a story where Scrivens had illegally colored tape on his stick and the opposing coach didn't challenge it until the shootout. I didn't remember that.

Has Macdonald been playing D full-time for Colorado this season? I recall San Jose often bounced him around between defense and forward as a “utility player” situation, but maybe that was just a David Quinn coaching strategy.

Tough season for Cole Bardreau and the Bridgeport Islanders, who set an AHL record for the fewest home wins in a season. Their home record was 4-28-1-3 and they were outscored by 70 goals at home. Their overall record was 15-48-7.
Cole played in 65 games and had 4 goals and 14 assists. His plus-minus of minus-6 was actually one of the better marks on the team. That doesn't mean he had a good season, though. According to this article:
Cole Bardreau and Tyce Thompson, two guys the team needed to be key contributors as veterans, failed. They combined for 39 points (Bardreau 18 pts, Thompson 21).

Barron just scored his 1st career playoff goal on a pretty tip-in to put the Jets up 2-1 in the 1st period over the Blues. He’s started to find the back of the net more often. since being moved to center late in the regular season.

For one reason or another, Morgan Barron appears to have led Jets forwards in ice time in their loss today.

On the flip side of that coin, Malott and the rest of the Kings' 4th line (along with their 3rd D pairing) were benched for essentially the entire third period and OT last night, leading to the Kings gassing out completely and getting dominated by the Oilers before Draisaitl's OT winner (after LA controlled most of the first two periods of the game). Kings fans this morning are scratching their heads about this "strategy", especially given that several of the Kings' "top" players are older and well past their prime (Doughty, Kopitar, etc.) It seems like a lot of fans were complimentary of the physical play of Malott's line during the early parts of the game, before the coaching staff decided to pivot to a 13-man lineup at the end.

The Kings' coaching staff was already facing a lot of heat after their botched challenge in Game 3 led to Edmonton's GWG on the power play.

Barron joined Malott and Malinski in having a nice goal wiped out due to a challenge for offsides last night. If that wasn’t bad enough, Winnipeg got thumped 5-3 and will go to Game 7 on Sunday.

With the Avs' unfortunate third-period collapse, penultimate Cornellian Stanley Cup hopeful Sam Malinski makes his exit from the playoffs. (At least his early penalty only resulted in a SHG for Colorado.) That leaves only Morgan Barron, with the Jets' own game seven against the Blues tomorrow night. Would've been nice to see an Avs-Jets series, guaranteeing a Cornell alum in the conference finals, but not so much.

With the Avs' unfortunate third-period collapse
Meanwhile, the Blues final two minute collapse keeps Barron alive headed to overtime. Morgan is 2-6 in faceoffs tonight and presumably has looked every bit of it.

Not that Morgan did a ton to acquit himself later in the game, but he stuck it out with the rest of the Jets and they won the fourth-longest game seven in NHL history (after the latest tying goal in NHL game seven history).

Bring on Dallas!

EDIT: Apparently THIRD longest game seven in NHL history by the time it actually ended. Zoiks.

Even though he wasn't superb in the faceoff dot tonight, I saw several strong shifts from him in both OT periods, and Arniel must have a lot of faith in his play as he was 5th among Winnipeg forwards in ice time with 26:42.

Fair - and he wasn't afraid to put his body in play, like always - but he also looked a step behind the Blues most of both OTs.

I watched only the first overtime, when he was chasing the play the whole time. TBH I was terrified he was going to get a hook or an interference and put them down a man. That would have been suboptimal.

Boy, he tries, though! He is busting his ass every second out there, and that is wonderful to see.

I think the whole taking a skate blade to the face and getting 75 stitches only to return later in the same game situation back in the 2023 playoffs forever endeared Barron to his teammates (and Jets fans):
