As mentioned in the Siblings thread, Cam Abbott is coaching the AHL Chicago Wolves. The Cornell Clubs of Chicago and Wisconsin are getting together to attend the Wolves game against the Milwaukee Admirals the afternoon of November 10, preceded by "light lunch". [cornelluniversity.imodules.com]

Sam basically created the goal with a nice retrieval behind his net, a speedy breakout and a slick outlet pass to Kiviranta (the goal scorer):

Stienburg was on the ice for the goal as well.

Our 5 guys currently on NHL rosters (Nash, Ryan, Barron, Malinski, Stienberg) is the most since 2022 (Nash, MacDonald, Angello, Barron, Malott).
The last time we had 6 was 2015. Our record is 7, last done in 2014.

How are you defining “on NHL rosters”? Nash and Angello haven’t played in the NHL this year (Nash hasn’t played at all and Angello is in the AHL). And neither shows up when I click on the roster on the Rangers/Penguins website.Trotsky

While I wait for my morning brain fog to lift so that I can think of someone myself, who would folks consider to be the most recent ECAC above average regular NHLer? A lot of the recent Cornell guys have settled into role players or are on the AHL shuttle. Some of the guys around the league that came out of college with big fanfare have also found their footing as role players (Vesey, Donato). Coronato is up and down. Who am I not thinking of yet?

Marino was a solid D and touted along with Fox as guys that could transform Harvard's team (which they did). Fox has always been the better defenseman but Marino was no slouch

I think the reason Trotsky doesn’t remember Marino, other than the hard drugs, is that Marino was at best the third best offensive defenseman on those teams behind Fox and Walsh (and maybe others I’m forgetting). As a result, Marino didn’t get much PP time and didn’t put up big numbers. Those Harvard teams were so loaded.Iceberg

Announcers mentioned in the clip sah67 posted, above, that he only got 3 minutes of ice time the night before. And correctly pointed out that if you're trying to cement a 4th line spot, being an aggro wrecking ball willing to do the dirty work and or drop the mitts is what you have to do to stay up.
Then you hope some guys get kicked and you get a few 3rd line shifts where it'd be possible to show some skill.
Welcome to the show.

I enjoyed the first game of the USA-Canada Rivalry series in women's hockey that is kicking off the PWHL season. I was generally impressed with the skill, speed and physicality. I think they are allowing a lot more contact these days in the women's game. The game was held in San Jose at the arena where the AHL Baracuda play (Sharks affiliate).
There were Cornell alums on both sides (Brianne Jenner, Jaime Bourbonnais, Rory Guilday) I wore my Cornell jersey/sweater and yelled out "Red!" during the anthem. A few people in the stands near me noticed and commented.
The USA seemed to have a bit more jump and better goaltending as they got out to a 6-0 lead and won 7-2.
If there were a team near me in the SF Bay Area, I would go to some games. I will also watch the next few games of the rivalry series (NHL network) as I think Canada was not happy about the blow out. Lots of tussling towards the end of the game.

Barron scored 2 empty net, shorthanded goals—which were his 1st 2 of the season—-as Winnipeg beat Florida 6-3.
The first one was actually pretty sweet (as ENGs go)...a sneaky bank shot off the boards from his own zone:

Morgan Barron got back in the scoring column last night with his first goal of the season with a goalie in the net.

Saturday night Angello, Bardreau, Malott and Seger all scored in their AHL games and Berard scored in his ECHL game.

We went to Syracuse yesterday to see Jack Malone play for Utica. He got a bunch of defensive zone faceoff assignments and was on the second power play unit on their only power play. He stopped out to see us after the game and is very happy to be playing for his hometown organization.

Jack Malone had a natural hat trick for Utica in the AHL last night. He had the feat accomplished 7:33 into the game.

But at least Malinski was marking his man, who wasn’t Barron

Barron managed to injure himself somehow while delivering this crazy hit the other night, and he’s now out of action “week to week” with an upper body injury:

What's going on with Riley Nash and the Rangers? I am guessing he's injured?

Says he missed all of the Rangers' training camp with a lower body injury and nothing else beyond that. Two way contract. I think it's a case of LTIRetirement at this point, especially given that he'd actively lose money if cleared to play and inevitably sent to Hartford. The Rancor

Malinski has been quiet in recent weeks, but last night he set up a Martin Necas breakaway goal with a gorgeous 2-zone bank pass from behind his own goal line:

Unfortunately Sam also “scored” a beauty of a goal that ended up being called back after a review for offsides.

Love it. Thanks for sharing. I remember seeing that same precise "pool" type pass off the boards when he played for Cornell. Such a smart player, glad he's doing so well. And blocking 8 shots in 2 games is amazing.

I hadn’t realized Jacob MacDonald re-signed with Colorado last summer, but he’s apparently the leading goal scorer on their AHL team right now, with 20G and 14A in 41 GP.

Jill Saulnier is now half the answer to the trivia question: who was involved in the first PWHL fight?
Incidentally, I saw Brianne Jenner play in Ottawa last week. Fantastic atmosphere as Jenner scored in Ottawa's league goal scoring record 8-3 win over Minnesota. I hope the league can find sustained success.

I missed that Ben Berard had been called back up to AHL Abbotsford (also sort of close to home). He had scored in his first game with them early in the season and then he scored again in his first game this time around.
