I love this season’s team so much.
Same :') they just don't give up, and everyone pulls their weight, too
Grady and Tim noted that the fourth line was out there for Union’s second goal, and that reminded me of so many seasons when Derraugh would basically go with two lines in the playoffs. I don’t think that fourth line played a ton this weekend but it was way more than fourth lines have gotten in years past, which says a lot.

This probably has something to do with why the women are ranked #3.

Is Karel Prefontaine the most clutch player we have? TIE GAME BITCHES
RUD AND WE'RE UP 3-2
fuck yes. i have such a dumb post to make when i get home
I can't waittt
ok so i watched the first period and went out to get my steps in and do some bonus grocery shopping (buying the things i forgot to get yesterday). i live on the east side of prospect park and walked to the park slope food coop because i am in many ways the stereotype you think i am. espn app is being a pain in the ass so i can't even listen. anyway, before i shop i check the score and see we scored first then gave it right back. i shop, i leave, we're down 2-1 and bergmann is being pulled after a time out. grumble grumble grumble women caught the men's sklansky win disease. refresh, and see tying goal/winning goal under review... and as i walk down union street on my way home from the coop, i see this and nearly trip rushing to open my camera.

Has there ever been a successful women’s ice hockey coach that changed jobs and became a men’s hockey coach? That was also successful. Just curious, bc we have one hell of a women’s hockey coach now.

Excerpted from the March 5 Athletic — Forward Hannah Bilka, defender Rory Guilday and goalie Nicole Hensley were all left off the 2025 roster. All three players have been fixtures on Wroblewski’s rosters over the last three years.

Bilka, 23, was the No. 4 pick in the 2024 PWHL Draft and had nine points in her first 13 professional games before getting injured at the Rivalry Series in February. Guilday, a shutdown defender, is in her senior year at Cornell University. Hensley, 30, has had a tough season in the PWHL — a 3.56 goals-against average and .866 save percentage — but has been on Team USA since 2016.

Great shot-block by Messier and a near-shorty for the Red from Jockims followed by a great Jockims forecheck after the faceoff. End of 1. Only got to watch a minute but it was a fun minute.

That felt like an incredibly fast period. 1-1 with the run of play favoring the Knights imo. Let's get that tightened up.

Clarkson looks good. I didn't follow their season closely but I can't believe they aren't the #2 seed. This is also a very chippy game and what was a penalty in the first period no longer is.

Heading to 2OT. Incredible save by the Clarkson goalie too. Clarkson is doing a great job of keeping passes from connecting. Neither team is able to set up any kind of cycle. Clarkson plays a rougher game but I wouldn't call it cheap or anything. More interference-y. And one trip of Delianedis in the last minute of the OT that I can't believe wasn't called.

Fun fact, Bergmann has made 53 saves on 54 shots on goal so far. The team should book her a week in a spa resort after this one.

I just watched the replay of the OT penalty. And watched it again, and again. If I were a Clarkson player, coach or fan I would be REALLY upset. The attempted Clarkson poke check would have been called a trip by many officials, especially since it occurred in front of the net. But given what was NOT called against either team through most of the prior 4 periods, it was a borderline call. Both teams played so well, and so hard for so long that I hate to see an important game decided like this. I hope Clarkson's season is not over. Even though I really don't like Clarkson hockey. It comes from being a fan in the 80s when they were more of a rival than Harvard.

Clarkson still has a pretty good shot at making it into the NCAAs. It looks like Cornell can finish 3, 4 or 5 in the Pairwaise, which means they avoid a first-round game*. They would host a quarterfinal if they finish 3 or 4 in the Pairwise.

*Edit: I guess there is still the possibility that they get dropped to 6 if they finish 5 and the committee needs to do something to avoid matching up conference opponents in the first round? I'm not up on how that works.

Yeah, then top 5 get byes. I didn't look at all scenarios, but I didn't immediately find one that drops Cornell below 5 if they lose tomorrow, though I edited to add that I suppose there is a possibility the committee would drop them to 6 for bracket reasons.

The fault lies with the refs for not calling anything until that point. As you say, it was a trip in front of the net. It’s a textbook penalty on a scoring opportunity. It should have been called, along with every other infraction committed in OT. The expectation of the refs swallowing their whistles in OT is so silly. If that’s the standard, you should trip and yank down people every play.

I was not reacting to the fact that the final trip was called, but rather to the fact that none of the other situations where a player ended up sprawled on the ice was considered a penalty. What has to be particularly frustrating to Clarkson is that their player did not engage in any blatant behavior -- she merely attempted to poke check the puck away and had the bad luck to catch a skate rather than the puck.

Ah, gotcha! I understood that we'd get a bye only if 3 or 4 hahaha. My brain is mush after the NHL trade deadline + triple overtime.

Why would the committee (theoretically) drop us arbitrarily? Is there precedent for that?

The NCAA tries to avoid intraconference matchups in the first-round games. I didn't look closely at all the possibilities for the 6-11 PWR teams, but I think it's pretty unlikely to happen since half of the group that's going to be in the first-round is from one-bid conferences.

that's what it looked like to me also but even in slomo it's hard to follow the deflection because the camera is moving (EDIT: definitely off the leg of the Clarkson defender at the top of the crease)

Neither of the recaps posted by the schools mention the puck hitting the Clarkson player. The Clarkson recap kinda goes out of the way to get it wrong:

"After the officials had swallowed their whistles and let the teams play for more than 80 minutes without a penalty call, including the final two periods of regulation and the first two overtime periods, a call was made for tripping early on in the overtime period. Cornell took advantage of Clarkson's tired legs and a screen by Georgia Schiff, as Lily Delianedis WHISTLED A SHOT TOP SHELF STICK SIDE OVER HOLLY GRUBER at the 3:33 mark of triple overtime."

(I couldn't figure out how to "bold", so I changed the really wrong part to all caps.)

Not only did they leave out the part about the puck changing direction when it hit the Clarkson player, they also said it went in stick side when it actually went in glove side. They did get the part about the refs swallowing their whistles right, though. I almost (but not really) felt bad for Clarkson when that call was made.

It is really a shame that these news sources miss the crucial details and nowadays there is no way to leave comment. Of course you can always send an email to the editors. It is safe to say that ELF is the authoritative arbiter of Cornell hockey truth.

Kaltounkova, Gate's leading goal scorer (and a Patty Kaz finalist), has been back in their lineup for 5 games since serving a 2-game suspension for a spearing major and then an additional 2 games in February where she "took some time away from the team." She only has 1 goal since returning and was held off the scoresheet against SLU last night, but she'll definitely be one to watch, especially since she plays a very physical game (as her numerous major penalties can attest to).

Alternatively, select the text you want to highlight and click the bold "B" icon at the far left of the tool bar immediately above the message editing pane. I'm on my desktop with lots of real estate. Perhaps the choices are more limited on a phone.

Great sized crowd on hand for the championship game! Big Red looking sharp and energetic thus far late in the first period. Colgate is giving up quite a few odd-man rushes... hopefully there is enough gas in the tank to play a strong 60 minutes.

I noticed especially at the end, we were hemmed into our zone more than one would like. Seems like the 100+ minutes yesterday isn't fazing the Big Red, but who knows how long their stamina will last.
