2 early failures of the PK. Frustrating to see us struggle with both sides of special teams. Also to see opponents show off an effective PP. 7 seconds on the 2nd one.

Twelve hours later and I’m still trying to figure out how to dissect that game. It was a game with three very distinctly different periods. Cornell came out, got that quick one and then couldn’t build on it due to penalties. They couldn’t get anything going the rest of the first. They came out in the second, won a ton of board battles and maintained a strong cycle. They dominated in possession most of the period but they kept making that one small mistake (like rimming the puck around to a vacated point) that would allow Union to reset. I don’t know if it was the late second period goal that sucked the life out of them but they came out for the third yet again a different team and couldn’t sustain any of the same pressure they had in the middle frame. Too many one and dones in the third. What a difference two weeks just made for the at large outlook.

As someone who attacks pessimists, I feel left out.
Mostly I'm tired of every single loss, pretty much across all sports these days, turning into a moral failure. Blow a small lead early on? You choked. Lose a winnable game? You have no heart and didn't want it enough. Hit a slide? Must lacking in leadership.
Sometimes teams lose. I'm completely fine with people posting that they're angry and miserable after a tough loss. But attacking the team after a tough loss, when they've had a pretty good year, makes me defensive.

It is true that we can still get into the NCAAs if we win the ECAC, yes. It is also true that Colgate, Dartmouth, and the rest of our league can do the same. Cornell is not special in this regard. We have the second best team in the league, but the reality is that winning the ECAC is a long shot. It cannot be more than 20%. The angry people on this forum are well aware we could, in theory, win the ECAC. We are unhappy anyway because we pissed away an at-large bid over the past two weekends.scoop85

Holy crap—you realize if we win the ECACs we’ll get a bid, right? I know it sucks right now but we have a team good enough to win the league.
The concept of the complainers being fair-weather fans is nonsense. If we sit through every game, every excruciating disappointment, how are we fair-weather fans? There are a couple of wild posters on here who seem to think Cornell losing is a moral failure or something. Most of us here don’t see things that way, but are disappointed all the same. A promising season has fallen to pieces. Now the entire year comes down to a tiny sample size of weighted coin flips, same as it does for every team who needs to win their conference tournament to make it to the NCAAs.

Even if your focus is ECAC > NCAA, we didn't finish first in the conference and haven't won the ECAC tournament since 2010.1 Do the people who think we're haters not see the value of a back up plan so we get more Cornell hockey? Every game matters for its own sake, for its value in the ECAC standings (and seeding) AND for progress towards the NCAAs - even if you consider that a mere trinket (a feeling, I am sure, not shared by Ken Dryden). When the conference is having a down year, it feels like we're much better than most of our conference peers, and we STILL keep going to fucking overtime or losing... guh.BearLover

1. NB: Trotsky - my first choice to confirm this would have been TBRW but... (let me know if it's an issue on my end)

I do not get the error; if anybody else does please PM me here. I've occasionally gotten it in the past looking at sites and I always figure, "welp, midget porn."

If Schafer challenges the Clarkson tying goal for a hand pass and it gets overturned, we’d be favorites for an at-large bid. Or if we beat Union, of course.

IF cornell only wins Union or Clarkson the PWR doesn't change much. Winning both would jump them to 12th

The point is that Cornell would be the *favorite* to receive an at-large bid by the end of the season, not that they would receive one if the season ended today. Most of the teams ahead of them will likely lose one or more times before the end of their conference tournaments.upprdeck

Best case if Cornell wins the 2 playoff games and everything thing goes right they can get to 12th.
More likely they win 2 and can scrape into 14th if several things go right.
if they win 3 and close to Q at least they have path in hand to know by then what can happen.

I’d just like to point out that our common fandom relies on two sites that were designed more or less when html frames (and Jason Elliott) were pretty great.
It’s a bit endearing at this point.

I can think of another site that is a similarly endearing time capsule of Internet 1.0…
Indeed, someone (never me) should create a Webring of such sites.
Also, I dearly miss collegehockeystats.net.

Explain "right" ... we have everything on our site that they had. And then some.
Consider this user testing experience.
Also - you guys are probably not the common user base

I'm not going to fight with you. I will say this is my ideal, and this is tooth-ache inducing.
I recognize that for profitability you have to bend over for the iPacifier perma-children, and that there is no more margin for you to serve me my preference than for Amazon to hawk this over this.
But, like Amazon, I wish you would stock both. I wish you, and the world, would simply have an adult schema for the visual display of information. By all means, soak the rubes, but set aside a tiny portion of the ROI for the last few humans, as the wave of plastic vomit engulfs us all.

You are a loser. You only show up on this forum immediately following a Cornell loss or during the game when Cornell is losing. Sometimes resulting in hilarity, like when you said “Goodbye NCAAs” after the Union game or “heh” when Cornell was down 3-1 to Dartmouth in the ECAC semis. Even though you are ostensibly a fan, you never say a single positive thing about the program. We all know that if Cornell loses to Denver, you’ll be on here posting about how Schafer can’t get to the Frozen Four. Doesn’t matter that Cornell is an Ivy that can’t offer scholarships or accept transfers and starts the season later than everyone else and has limitations on practice time yet has seen consistent league and national success for decades. You should either completely revamp your posting style or stop posting altogether.

Sometimes, posters are more interested in negativity than positivity, and they post more about what's wrong with the team than what's right.
That's okay (even if it gets on my nerves sometimes). Some people like venting their negativity.
But once in a very long while, there's someone here who isn't a fan and just enjoys seeing us lose. I think this is one of those times.

have you ever listened to an interview of someone who got a cochlear implant late in life? one of the hardest challenges is filtering out background noise because they haven't had their whole life to learn which sounds are the relevant ones. here, we are all experienced enough to know the difference and still we can't help but shout back at the noise.
