Should be Shane again. He actually played well tonight and was a big reason North Dakota didn't score more goals

NDak split with Q, our only common opponent...so does that mean that a win tonight and a split with Q (or a tie tonight and a winning record against Q) means that our pairwise comparison with NDak goes in our favor?

On the first goal, he got hung out to dry due to a poorly timed substitution of the back two during the 4 on 4. He looked surprised, as you suggest, on the second goal. It was the third that was the snipe.

All I can say about Shane is he played better than the NoDak goalie last night.

He did seem to follow the puck well, and not freak out. There were a few cases where I thought he was out of position. But I know nothing.

When he is on his game I think Howe is the best of the three, but he has been ill or injured and not looked great lately.

The NoDak forum is all over their goalie. Apparently he is a 5th year senior transfer with great numbers at Bemidji last year, but has one of the lowest save percentages in the nation this year.

They feel if he plays again tonight, the coaches must have zero faith in their backups.

NoDak starting a different goalie tonight.

My intuition is we are going to get beaten pretty badly tonight, say 4-1 or 5-2. But even if so, a great trip to NoDak.

NoDak announcer thinks it made contact with shoulder but I don't see that. Their announcers have been very fair though.

I think initial contact with the shoulder plus a follow-through elbow to the head should still be five.

I've been able to watch both games with that pass. It's good for any game that starts within a 24-hour window of the time of purchase. Since I purchased after 8, I've been able to see the earlier game today.

I've been able to watch both games with that pass. It's good for any game that starts within a 24-hour window of the time of purchase. Since I purchased after 8, I've been able to see the earlier game today.

cornell jumps to 14 in the pairwise; nodak falls to 11. really hoping we don't let up back in conference play. also really like the way the team is playing strong third periods.

Pretty damn good for a “rebuilding” year, when about half the team is playing its first year of college hockey.

Watching Shane’s composure and apparent ability, he must REALLY suck in practice to have been riding the pine for so long.

Kidding aside he was terrific all weekend, and was especially good tonight. Not sure if it was lightning in the bottle, but I assume he’ll be in the pipes in New Haven on Friday.

Yes. They seem also to be learning that 16 seconds per goal does not make for much of a highlight reel.

It also helped that unlike in the ECAC, Cornell didn't need to go a man down after the miss. In the NCHC, the coach has the option to decline the penalty shot and take the standard minor.

No, I’m still saying that bill is stretching the definition of “amazing comeback” if we have 58 minutes to erase a substantial … *cough* one goal deficit. Let’s not fool ourselves.

I watched that penalty shot 6 times, and I still don’t know what the shooter was trying. If he wanted to draw Shane to the far post, and poke it back stick side, it just wasn’t a good move. Great job by Shane to stay square and not cheat to cover the post. Caught it with the stick and the pad. Good unpanicked approach.

I think it’s what you thought or close to it. To me it looked he was trying to drag the puck so that his body got out in front to try to get the goalie to maintain positioning relative more to the shooter’s body than the puck and shooter could chip it over the goalie’s trailing leg because the goalie’s center had moved too far. I probably described that horribly.

The important thing is I think the sweep retroactively makes Cornell 2020 national Champs.

Cornell played the game without head coach Mike Schafer, who stayed back at the hotel because he was "under the weather." Associate coach Ben Syer served as acting head coach. He's now 8-0-4 in his career as acting head coach.

While the victory officially goes down as the 492nd in the career of Mike Schafer '86, the Jay R. Bloom '77 Head Coach of Men's Hockey, Schafer was not present at the rink due to illness. Nice sidebar article on Cody Haiskanen's homecoming weekened. I will say it's nice to be able to read newspaper articles about our games with quotes from coaches/players on both sides. I give the Grand Forks Herald credit for that. As far as I know, for example, there were no newspaper stories about our games last week at Arizona State. The Cornell Sun stories never have quotes from the opposing coaches and are often just written from watching the games on livestream. Here in New Haven, where I live, the New Haven paper doesn't both covering most of the Yale or Quinnipiac home games in person any more, either.

One of the interesting things about living in a very small place (population-wise) is the local investment in what's going on.
