Good news after last year's shut out. Do you remember the 5?CAS
I counted 5 Big Red recruits on the NHL draft September preliminary 2015 players to watch.
Edit: Never mind. I see Kubachka, Cairns, O'Leary, Green, Sternshein: [www.nhl.com] All predicted 4th round or later.

So a Cornell recruit traded for a Dartmouth recruit.
I still find it off-putting that 17 and 18 year-old kids can be traded in junior hockey
I thought that only happened in major junior (Canadian tier 1), but I guess it makes sense that it also does in the USHL (US tier 1). Are trades allowed in Junior A (Canadian Tier 2, e.g., BCJHL, AJHL, etc)?scoop85

There are also trades in the Canadian Tier 2 leagues, even on occasion between the leagues. Then latter might require consent of the players involved.Trotsky

Cameron Donaldson, Jr., LC, 7/14/98 - Despite being undersized he had the most upside of any player on the ice all day in Exeter. He flies around the ice, he's got great speed and good hands and is agile on his feet. He was the catalyst of a very good young line that Chris Baudo threw out there with '99 Zach Pellegrino and '98 Matt Danner. Green Bay Gamblers center Connor Murphy has switched his commitment from Michigan to Cornell and will join their program next year.
Murphy committed to the program two years ago as a budding star playing for Caledonia in Canadian Junior B. After a year in the USHL with the Chicago Steel Murphy signed his letter of intent and was expected to join the 2015 class but instead went back to the USHL for another year. Now he has been released from his letter of intent and the two have parted ways.
Since Mullin is a 19 years old, I'm assuming he'll be coming in next year.

Also, Kaldis both is a defender and has the highest ppg in the entire list. Most of his points are assists, but the numbers are still impressive. Does he play under unusual circumstances?

Kaldis will make a wonderful upgrade over Willcox...... I still can't figure out why Coach insists on playing Reece on the PP. The guy has such an aversion to taking shots-on-goal. Mike even acknowledges that that's a shortcoming....Aren't PP's intended for scoring goals?? The opponents have to know that he will NOT shoot at their goalie. That must give them an advantage when defending him.... This boggles my mind.... Reece is a lock-down defenseman. But, I will be glad to see an offensive minded d-man on the PP in the future.
OK. Who made sure Merrimack read this and planned accordingly before the game last night?

Getting towards the end of their season, we do seem to have some potential scorers in the pipeline. It's anybody's guess if it will translate into D-1 production, but:
Proj Player, GP, G, (Proj: projection of player's G/GP percentage over a 35-game season)
32 Donaldson, 32, 29
23 Barron 65, 43
18 Malott, 50, 26
17 Betts, 57, 28
17 Mullin, 63, 30
What's the coefficient you have to multiple Proj by to get their D-1 production? .7? .5? .3? We'll see.
Well, according to the System(TM) c = (26-N)/26, where N is the alphabetical ordinal ranking of the first letter of Head Coach's last name (e.g., A=1, B=2, etc.).
How did Jerry York ever get a job?
Correct, of course. I guess that I could have been more specific.pfibiger

6.2 Barron
4.8 Malott

And BC gets #110, 141, 156, 166, 190, and the #5 goaltender. What's the matter with these kids? Don't they know the ECAC is now the dominant eastern league?
Speaking of the ECAC, Sucks picks up #50, 123, & 196. Yale gets #122 & 175. Clarkson, #138. Q gets #126. RIP, #185. These are the only ECAC teams I saw.

Jeff Malott, who I believe is heading to Ithaca this fall, had 12 points in 13 playoff games for the Brooks Bandits of the AJHL, who lost in the semifinals of the RBC Cup, which is a "Tournament of Champions" for Canadian Junior A teams. Malott was his team's MVP during the regular season, with 60 points in 46 games.

Alex Limoges, who's slated to enter Cornell in the fall of 2017, had a great rookie season and playoff (14 points in 11 playoff games) for Tri-City in the USHL as they won the Clark Cup. Encouraging to see such scoring prowess in what is widely recognized as the top Junior A league in North America.

Wait! Are you saying we're recruiting scorers? Schafer must go!
There are lots of kids that can score in juniors. But only a few have the inner talent to be molded into grind-it-out role players.Swampy

Hey, now. We could corner the sow's ear market if we could just get our silk purse supply chain straightened out.
Cairns has been invited to the NHL combine.jkahn
The Hockey News draft preview has Matthew Cairns ranked 84th of all players. The brief write-up says "Big and fast. Sometimes tries to do too much. Cornell bound."

If you had "1" in the pool for number of Cornellians, you win.

Predictions for Cornellians in the draft, anyone?
1. Two recruits born a day apart (Betts and Limoges) will get drafted in succession.
2. Cornell's total will not equal the number of BU's first round selections.

Noah Bauld, who was thought to be coming in 2017, is part of the incoming class. No other surprises.
Interesting quote from Schafer in the release: "Gone are the days where you can physically punish teams, so now you have to intimidate with speed."

Maybe he's getting it, after all.... Let's wait & see if the results show on the scoreboard. It will be fun to watch!!!

New recruit (for 2018-19) -- Josh Nelson, forward for the Chicago Fury U-18 team. He's a draft pick of the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL.
Unfortunately, Nelson recently signed with London (OHL).

Well, best of luck to him. But I will always wonder about the wisdom of passing up the college experience (at Cornell or elsewhere) to go the Major Junior route, especially for American kids.
