from a Cornell Sun point of view, yes.  If I remember correctly, The Sun used to do two "joke" issues a year, on the Fridays before Fall Weekend (maybe not in all years as I couldn't find the Fall '67 one in the archives) and Spring Weekend, which were the big party weekends on campus for the fraternities.  

My favorite was Spring of '67 with an article entitled something like "Dryden to leave school and play for Canadiens."  Back then, there were almost no college hockey players in the pros.  The article included a petition urging Dryden to stay in school, with signatures including Rogatien Vachon, who Dryden would actually win the goalie job from several years later.
