short hander by princ. cu play poorly now.. they had a great chance on an open net on the power play but wiffed and them pokoluk overer played a puck at the top the point and the princton player poked it away and had a break away.. clean to the glove side.. now
CU going back on the Kill up 4-3

Big Red Colonel

Sounds like we are picking things up a bit.  We're on a PP with 9:40 to go.

upperdeck

Cam on a breakaway from center ice on the powerplay.. faked the goal down and they wen top shelf.. 5-3

Big Red Colonel

5-3.  Breakaway PP goal for Cam Abbott from Pegs and one other (couldn't hear the announcer over the background) .

... and another penalty on us with 8:30 or so to go.

upperdeck

CU back on the kill.. iffy call in Gleed who knocked someone down on a check. might have been an interference call but couldnt hear.

upperdeck

Good kill, very little pressure

upperdeck

clear 2 on 1 shot wide by CU  ..  under 3 to go..

upperdeck

upperdeck

2 good saves by McKee. onetimer from the slot about 10 ft out and then a glove save from faceoff circle.. timeout princeton

upperdeck

mild pressure with the extra man but the puck never really got into a good shotting position. CU missed one empty net show..

its over..

5-3 win, first time Cornell gives up > 2 goals this season; had to happen some time. The outcome could have been better say 6-2 but it could have also been a 4-4 tie. This was not the Princeton that was blown out by Yale.

All three were strange goals, from my perspective.  The first was a shot from the point on a PP that hit something in a crowd and went in.  The second apparently went in off Vart's skate.  And the third was shorthanded on a giveaway by Polulok.

Best team Princeton has had in years.  Cornell played pretty well, particularly the forwards.  The defensemen had an off weekend though.

Best team in years but not that many years. It does seem like a typo every time you see it, but there it is: 1997-98 - ECAC - tournament champion - Princeton.

That would be the year Princeton lost to defending ECAC tournament champ Cornell in the regular season 2-1 and 4-1 and then took out Cornell 6-2 in an ECAC "final five play-in" game in Lake Placid. Princeton only lost by 2-1 to eventual champion Michigan in the NCAA first round. Proof the puck can take odd bounces.
