ECAC Finally Signs Playoff TV Deal

With Comcast or also known as CN8 according the article.  They will air one quarterfinal playoff game.  If they were smart, they would without question go to Dartmouth.  The series with RPI is going to be a really good one.  Comcast will carry both semi-final games the Championship.  They are also carrying the women's ECAC's.

Adam Wodon had a lot to say about the ECAC TV deal in his latest article ( http://www.uscho.com/news/2004/03/04_008102.php ).  It makes one wonder what exactly the ECAC was smoking so as not to take advantage of a possible national TV deal.

CN8 is Comcast Cable's own network which features a variety of programs including news but I had not known it to have sports mainly because I have a choice of Cable providers, I don't have Comcast but then you don't need cable when you're watching the game in person.  From purely an atmostphere standpoint, it's hard to top Lynah for televising a game.  Speaking of atmosphere, there was none at Harvard (Sucks) last night.  1600 or something was a stretch for the attendance.  Dartmouth-RPI would be the two closest matched teams in the 4-5 game.  I would think they would also want to cover a team in an area served by Comcast and as Comcast is a newbie to MA (I know they are big down in Phillly/DC), I'm not sure what areas that would be.

Also, if the results from last night are repeated tonight, I think we would play Clarkson, which is bound to be an attractive pairing.  OTOH, we've had the TV game pretty frequently.

Brown-Harvard might be considered attractive for a New England audience.

I have Comcast on the Fox Sports package with Dish Network.  It's identified as CCSN (Comcast Sports Network) rather than CN8.  It's either DC or Baltimore based judging from the content of their sports reports.  Do you know if the ECAC games will be shown on this channel, or is CN8 a New England branch of Comcast?  Somehow I have a hard time believing that College Hockey will be shown in Washington DC.

CN-8 is completely different than the Comcast SportsNet (Philly version and D.C. version). CN-8 is a totally different channel that is on all Comcast cable systems.  It's not the D.C. all sports one that's on the dish (Philly's isn't on the dish).

Unfortunately not.  CN8 is only available in Comcast's Mid-Atlantic and New England regions, which cover basically Maryland to Maine.

From the CN8 website it doesn't look like there is very extensive coverage from Maine to Maryland like Phil Butta-dork-o said, instead the ECAC hockey schedule listed below is only being shown in the New England Region (ME, NH, VT, MA, CT, RI).

The Mid-Atlantic region (NY, NJ, DE, PA, MD) is getting Atlantic 10 basketball Friday March 12th, with no listings yet for the 19th-20th.

Anyway, this doesn't look like that good of a deal for the ECAC when the home market (NY) for half the leauge is not showing the games!  

What gives?

the home market should be at the games!  but, yeah, I know that's not realistic.  oh well.  we were spoiled last year, apparently.

check your tv schedule religiously in the following weeks. I have a vague recollection from when I was in Columbia, MD with comcast that CN8 carried the ECAC final tape delayed the day of the game or a day (or possibly week) after the actual event. That was about two years ago...so it would be the 2002 games.

Now that I think about it in 2002 CN8 in the mid Atlantic region was broadcasting the final game since I remember almost making my friend in Philly tape it for me...only problem was that she didn't own a vcr at the time. I didn't pay too much attention last year since I'd moved into DC and switched to the dish. The CN8 broadcast wasn't as heavily advertised before as it is now.
