Section A Banshee

Uh, the Yellow Rose of Texas is a mulatto prostitute.  The song's about her.  Not what I'd call appropriate.

You just don't find information of this caliber on the Hockey East USCHO threads. ;-)

Point is, McKee would probably know it (the girl who told me is an Austin native, so I GUESS it follows that it's common Texas knowledge), and wonder what the heck we were thinking. :-P

"Just kidding, let's pretend I didn't say anything" 2, Daina 0.

I must be confusing it with another song -- I thought there was a march-type song about Texas in addition to "Deep in the Heart."

That's not saying much.   ::nut::

Wait, no... score is tied.

This is the Yellow Rose I was referring to:

Yellow Rose of Texas

There's a yellow rose in Texas, I'm going there to see.
I know she's waiting for me, nobody only me.
She cried so when I left her, it like to broke her heart.
And if we ever meet again, we never more shall part.

[CHORUS]
She's the sweetest little rosebud, that Texas ever knew.
Her eyes are bright as diamonds, they sparkle like the dew.
You may talk about your Clementine, and sing of Rosy Lee,
But the yellow rose of Texas, is the only one for me.

Oh, I'm going back to find her, my heart is full of woe.
We'll sing the songs together, that we sang so long ago.
I'll pick the banjo gaily, and sing the songs of yore.
The Yellow Rose of Texas, shall be mine forever more.

Here's where I found it: http://www.lsjunction.com/midi/songs.htm

...you may talk about your Clementine and sing of Dave McKee....

That's probably "The Eyes of Texas", which is sort of like a patriotic arrangement of "I've Been Working on the Railroad".

That could be -- but the above post was the Yellow Rose that originally came to mind :)

Ack

Yeah, we probably don't want to have him wondering things that don't involve stopping the puck.

I do think it would be a good idea if we were to extend our "Deep in the Heart of Texas" chant that we sing at the beginning of the 2nd period, at least one more pair of lines:

"The stars at night - are big and bright (clapclapclap...)
Deep in the heart of Texas.
The prairie sky - is wide and high (clapclapclap...)
Deep in the heart of Texas."

The extra two lines will make the cheer longer, should be just as catchy, and more and more people will be able to pick up on it and remember.

So, am I the only one who thinks of Pee-Wee's Big Adventure when I hear that song?

(Which doesn't mean I don't like it for McKee, I'm just saying is all...)
"They do all kind of just blend together into one giant dildo."

Those are the right lyrics, dss, but the girl in question was still a real-life prostitute. :-D

dss28

Interesting.  I didn't gather that from the lyrics (clearly...)  ::help::

Guess the score is back to "Just kidding, let's pretend I didn't say anything" 2, Daina 0.

[edit:  updated the score]

The song has been around since the 1800s, but it was forcibly linked with Emily West in the 1960s by "myth-making" journalists well after the Mitch Miller version of the song was popular.

Then there's the Alan Sherman version...

I'm Melvin Rose of Texas, and my friends all call me Tex.
When I lived in old New Mexico, they used to call me Mex.
When I lived in Old Kentucky, they called me old Kentuck.
I was born in old Shamokin, which is why they called me Melvin Rose.

:-P
