Quote from: BearLover on October 03, 2026, 12:01:54 AMMSU has 17 draft picks including 9 first rounders. Don't know how we're supposed to compete with that. The best players commit/transfer to the top conferences to play against better talent, which creates a vicious cycle of the top conferences perpetually improving and the weaker conferences perpetually getting worse. The CHL opening up to college exacerbated this. We unfortunately need to root for other ECAC teams to improve so that the conference profile improves somewhat.

Let teams in other conferences take a lot of the blue chip prospects. We don't have to compete with MSU. We just have to win one game against them in the NCAAs if we run into them.
"MSU" is a stand-in for "blue blood who is recruiting ridiculous talent such that the gap between ours and theirs grows larger every year." MSU could just as easily be Denver, BC, BU, Michigan, etc.

Here are the teams who ended our season in the NCAAs the past six trips:
Denver
BU
Denver
BU
Providence
BU

We do have to beat these teams if we ever want to win a national championship.

We can cope all we want, but it's very clear at this point that blue-chip recruits are far more likely to win you a national title than B-level recruits. If B-level recruits were better, then MSU would recruit them instead.

Remarking on the growing talent disparity is not "shitting on my team," it's just being realistic about the state of college hockey. I've said many times that I am bullish on our chances this year if our goaltending works out. No need for everyone to freak out and start pretending we have a better team than the 18-draft-pick juggernauts lurking in the Big 10.

Completely nonsensical take. Our guys have been playing against their guys, in other leagues, and in our own, for years. They all made the cut, and are in the D1 dance.  They even scored goals, won games, and made highlight reels along the way. Our guys aren't scared, intimidated, or otherwise unprepared to face off against MSU, BU, Denver or any other team- and that's what you don't understand about sports, hockey or life.

Right.  Shut out Denver in the NCAAs in 2023.  Beat Maine in 2024.  Beat vaunted MSU in 2025 (with one MSU goal scored after a bad bounce off the dasher and another when two Cornell guys skated over the puck and left it behind the net).

Yes, the drift of college sports toward professionalization over the past 60 years has made it more and more difficult for Ivies to compete with the big guys.  It's almost certainly going to get worse.

If Cornell has to professionalize like the biggies in order to compete I will no longer have interest.  When the athletes on the field or ice or court are playing only because they have the best financial deal, they are just hired hands, and I can't relate to them any more than I can relate to a baseball player playing for his third team in three years.

It's been a good ride for me the past 65 years, but if it ends, it ends.  It's pointless (and annoying to others) to whine about it constantly.

LOL what?? Are you trying to pump up the locker room? Lindenwood's players also "made the cut," "are in the D1 dance," "scored goals," "won games," "made highlight reels." Yeah, I know our guys aren't intimidated by the top teams--but what's that got to do with anything? My point is about the growing talent disparity, not about our guys being intimidated or not being D1-caliber athletes who score sometimes.

Former Cornell commit Alex Pelletier had 2 goals for BC in their preseason game against MSU.

Please, there's no such person.

It was a natural hat trick to tie the game at 3.

Believe that Olivers Murnieks took notice of Rainers.

Sveiks!

He scored goals 1, 3, and 4. Freshman Caleb Hadland scored the second and soph Matthew Buckley #5. Videos of all of them without sound are here: https://www.instagram.com/rpi_mhockey/?hl=en

FWIW, RPI football returned the 2nd-half kickoff to lead Hilbert College 62-0. I think that we solved a couple of Hilbert's problems. :)

Thanks to RPI as well as their earlier opponents including Ithaca College, Hilbert is now #772 and last.

BTW, Cornell is #174.

RPI defeated OSU 3-0. IMO, the difference was in the goal.

SOG's were 36-20 in OSU's favor.

Krawchuk stole the game. RPI's D was playing good positional hockey but their offense looked like a pee-wee team compared to TOSU. They couldn't advance the puck and lost the puck battles.  But TOSU couldn't score and Krawchuk didn't make a mistake all night that I could see.

Penalties were very lopsided against RPI including a major and game disqualification.

This was a good start for them on their new ice.
"When we came off, [Bitz] said, 'Thank God you scored that goal,'" Moulson said. "He would've killed me if I didn't."
