Quote from: WederClarkson still has a pretty good shot at making it into the NCAAs. It looks like Cornell can finish 3, 4 or 5 in the Pairwaise, which means they avoid a first-round game. They would host a quarterfinal if they finish 3 or 4 in the Pairwise.
If we lose tomorrow, can we still get a bye?

Colgate up 1-0.

Yeah, then top 5 get byes. I didn't look at all scenarios, but I didn't immediately find one that drops Cornell below 5 if they lose tomorrow, though I edited to add that I suppose there is a possibility the committee would drop them to 6 for bracket reasons.

Quote from: dag14I just watched the replay of the OT penalty.  And watched it again, and again.  If I were a Clarkson player, coach or fan I would be REALLY upset. The attempted Clarkson poke check would have been called a trip by many officials, especially since it occurred in front of the net.  But given what was NOT called against either team through most of the prior 4 periods, it was a borderline call.  Both teams played so well, and so hard for so long that I hate to see an important game decided like this.  I hope Clarkson's season is not over.  Even though I really don't like Clarkson hockey.  It comes from being a fan in the 80s when they were more of a rival than Harvard.
The fault lies with the refs for not calling anything until that point. As you say, it was a trip in front of the net. It's a textbook penalty on a scoring opportunity. It should have been called, along with every other infraction committed in OT. The expectation of the refs swallowing their whistles in OT is so silly. If that's the standard, you should trip and yank down people every play.

I was not reacting to the fact that the final trip was called, but rather to the fact that none of the other situations where a player ended up sprawled on the ice was considered a penalty.  What has to be particularly frustrating to Clarkson is that their player did not engage in any blatant behavior -- she merely attempted to poke check the puck away and had the bad luck to catch a skate rather than the puck.

Ah, gotcha! I understood that we'd get a bye only if 3 or 4 hahaha. My brain is mush after the NHL trade deadline + triple overtime.

Why would the committee (theoretically) drop us arbitrarily? Is there precedent for that?

The NCAA tries to avoid intraconference matchups in the first-round games. I didn't look closely at all the possibilities for the 6-11 PWR teams, but I think it's pretty unlikely to happen since half of the group that's going to be in the first-round is from one-bid conferences.

SLU's cut it to 3-2 with a little over 8 to go... give me overtime...

Not to be. Colgate hits the empty net, 4-2 with 20.1 left.

I thought it went in off a Clarkson player.
