Don't need a new game thread, but an easier day today vs. Hobart. Lead 21-5 with7 mins to go (only won 13 of 28 FO's)

Bench cleared at the start of the 4th quarter, including freshman goalie, Matt Tully.

I thought the Hobart game production was much better after they got the PBP man's Mike fixed. The half field view was substantially tighter than the Lehigh game, there were some nice field level shots, and PBP was better at identifying players.
"Yo Paulie - I don't see no crowd gathering 'round you neither."

It would be interesting to see the 3 goals.

0ne that didnt cross the line. I never went and tried to rewatch

One that the FO man scored I think the backside judge ruled some kind of interference when the D slightly jostled with our trailing longpole..  Had not effect on the play

One that we scored and I think the call was in the crease, I replayed it from the TV angle it didnt look like he went in at all, he might have touched the line but you can now if you dont go into the half circle and the ball scores before he touches the line?

Not sure about today, but in the old days, if an offensive player flicks a blade of grass with crease chalk, he's in the crease.

Local Motion

Tough loss for Cornell vs. Denver, but the Big Red took their frustrations out on Hobart yesterday winning by a whopping 23-7.   I think we can all agree Cornell lacrosse probably has one of the toughest schedules this season, but that's what it takes to eventually land in the Final Four or win a national championship.   Regardless it's going to be a fun lacrosse season on the East Hill and come to Schoellkopf to support the Big Red!

Cornell clobbered Hobart by 16 goals Tuesday (final, 23-7) and it got me to thinking, Why are we playing such a poor team, maybe we should schedule another top ten or top twenty team. There's a number of reasons why:

* Hobart is good competition (most years), it's a day trip, it's midweek.
* We do win more often: 20 of 23 times this century, all but 18 times going back to the Ned Harkness era (he coached lacrosse, too, 1966-68). From 2000 to 2024, 11 games have been decided by 1-5 goals. The only blowouts bigger than this week date back to Harkness/Moran late sixties era.
* We're supporting New York State lacrosse and tradition: The 140 games between the two make it the most-played, annual rivalry. (Syracuse interrupted the 108-game series that dates to 1920 to play Princeton last year, now it's back to Cornell.) We've also played Albany, Army, Colgate, Albany, Stony Brook, Binghamton, Siena. Some rivals seem to rotate off, others drop completely if they aren't competitive such as Binghamton, last played 2018, all 13 games (2004-2018) were Cornell wins.
* We've already got five of our 13 games against non-league teams this week rated top 20 – Denver, Ohio State, Penn State, Syracuse, Notre Dame – and four Ivy teams. No Southern teams, tho.

Old-timer stuff: Richie Moran almost closed the rivalry, or said he wouldn't play again in Geneva, after the team got pelted with beer cans during the 1974 game. I was on the sidelines photographing and it was a little unnerving. But the series continued the next year. In Ithaca.

Triple-header home action for three top-twenty Cornell teams:

Men's Lacrosse hosts #20 Ohio State, 12 noon, Schoellkopf Field. (Temp 47, 35% chance of rain.)
Also Women's Ice Hockey hosts game 2 of ECAC quarterfinals against Quinnipiac, 3 pm.
And Men's Ice Hockey hosts RPI 7 pm, RS finale (the Friday game as pushed back to 7:30 but not Saturday)

Let's see if Cornell can shake off that loss at Denver.

As Stanford, Cal and SMU are now 3, 3 and 1 time zones removed from the location implied by Atlantic Coast Conference. I was thinking of the geolocation of the school's main campus. My bad. But thank you for not using a wry smileyface at the end of your comment.
