Based on what the WHCU GM told me the broadcasters will be local for each team, so hopefully Barry will do our home games along with Tom and/or Howie - Jason Weinstein did them solo for ESPN+ last year, so we might not know until game time on Saturday. As another fan on the FanLax forum posted, another big loss is the pregame show with the coach interviews, matchups, etc.

So no radio for lax but radio for hockey?

the worst part of no radio to me is when driving during a game and not being able to listen.

But this isnt a WHCU issue this is a school issue..  the ADs allowed this? or else they wanted WHCU to pay a huge amount to get the rights.

Lots of sports on ESPN+ have radio broadcasts..

if only we had a new AD to complain too.

I'm guessing it's a money issue as the school doesn't want to pay for the radio broadcasts with the assumption most people are watching the stream. And I believe schools aren't allowed to simulcast the ESPN+ broadcast on radio.

Isnt the radio station paying the schools to broadcast not the schools paying?

When you listen to games on XM its the school radio feeds you get and many of those same schools have espn+ feeds. its a different crew .

I would wonder how many locals have the ESPN+ feed.   I know most people I know locally do not get espn+ but do listen to hockey on the radio.

Also gone then is the capability to listen in the car or at the stadium to play by play. ::cuss::
"Yo Paulie - I don't see no crowd gathering 'round you neither."

yup pretty shorted sited as a fan experience..

Lots of things happen on the field that no one understands and is lost when live watching a game..

Get the ESPN app on your phone, and listen to the play-by-play audio wherever you are.

I'm hoping Barry and Tom will be doing the ESPN call now that WHCU will not be.

But even so, I'm gonna miss those tart cherry juice ads ...

upprdeck

you can do that espn app but it will drain your phone pretty fast..  You  likely can not listen to a whole game with it running since you have to use it with the video.

You also have to have decent internet since it forces you to be in 5g range for any of the newer phones..   if you have to do it with hockey almost no chance it works in lynah given the poor reception in there.

Even in Ithaca that are tons of dead zones in town trying to listen to a game on your phone..

And the same for a car.. If you sync it up you better have a way to plug it or it will be dead before you get some place and then the signal drops out all over the county.

Correct!  After winning a game, we drop two spots.  Admittedly not a great showing but smh.

Quote from: dag14I watched the Cornell/UAlbany women's game later on Saturday and we were CORW.  It took me a minute to figure it out, too.

Reminds me of my all time favorite in the Daily Sun--the second page of each article abberviated the names of the teams, too.  Men's basketball was "MHOOPS", which meant women's basketball was "WHOOPS."  :-P  Not in the days of Jeomi Maduka, they weren't, but that was after I graduated.

Hmm...the CU sports information team needs to do a bit of proofreading. This is from the preview for the Lehigh game on Feb 25, 2023:

Last Meeting: Cornell won 9-5 on February 26, 2023 in Bethlehem, Pa.

If we win this year by the same score, then they just got the date wrong by a day, eh?

Cornell sports PR is not over-staffed. Mistakes are understandable. Still doesn't excuse the glitches.

If these people are journalists at heart, now or once upon a time, it must be soul-crushing to have to put a spin on, say, the league's second- or third-best team losing two fricking games at home. As for-instance.

How is Michael Long doing? Are we going to see him soon?
