Quote from: BearLoverI just hope the townie side fills up next year. I wonder if most of the empty seats formerly belonged to antivaxxers.

I'd be surprised if there's a big antivaxxer contingent in Ithaca. More likely it's that the townies are taking a more cautious approach to attending large events.
Ithaca, no. The surrounding towns, though...there's a reason Tom Reed keeps getting re-elected.

The reason Tom Reed keeps getting reelected has nothing to do with Ithaca, nor the suburbs thereof. He gets reelected because his district covers all of rural southwestern NY. It starts just outside Binghamton and goes all across the PA border past Jamestown. The classic dump a Democratic city into a huge Republican rural area, thus negating their votes.

Now that the district configuration is changed, so that Ithaca is combined with Syracuse, see who wins.

A favorite gerrymander was how they tunneled the 22nd district (Maurice Hinchey era) from the Hudson Valley to include Ithaca.

Yeah, it was weird when I moved from Kingston to Ithaca and realized I was in the same congressional district I grew up in.  Made me worry less about where I was supposed to register to vote.  Hinchey was actually my Assemblyman growing up, when Matt McHugh was in congress.
