Faceoffs 16-9 favoring Cornell.
Dominating on face-offs was important both this weekend and last.  My impression over the last several years, including earlier this year, is that face-offs have been a serious weak spot for Cornell.  Has something changed?

From his roster page:

Doug Tesoriero

Quote from: http://cornellbigred.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=31522&path=mlaxAt Syosset HS
A high school All-American and a four-year letter winner, Tesoriero helped Syosset high school to a pair of Nassau County Class A championships. In 2008, he led Syosset to the Long Island Class A championship before finishing as the New York State Class A finalists. He served as team captain twice and was named to the New York Scholar Athlete team three times. Tesoriero was an all-county selection as a senior and as a junior and was named all-conference as a sophomore. He also lettered twice in football and was named all-conference as a senior.

If I recall correctly, he was one of the top face-off players in the country in high school. I think we're seeing a combination of maturation and coaching to raise him to a comparable stature at the college level. Since this position is more 1-on-one than virtually any other position in lacrosse, there still may be some opposing players with whom he matches up poorly (e.g., Yale's Levings). (Of course, there's a face-off unit, so even this involves teamwork.) This may leave the impression that this is a weakness for the team.

Doug and A.J. must have gained lots of confidence the past two weeks. Let's hope it transfers over to keeping their games at such a high level for the next two games, or perhaps even a higher level.

Wow.  Carolina was up 6-0 before Denver finally got a goal.

How many stories would describe Carolina-Cornell the championship game?

Stop your usual "what if" daydreaming. I'm thinking of Notre Duke, and ONLY Notre Duke.

So Denver has stormed back and UNC is hanging on 11-10 with 1:52 left and Denver with the ball

That would be none.  Final 12-11 Denver.

The New Haven Register didn't even bother sending a staff writer to the Yale quarterfinal game on Saturday. They ran an AP story today about the game.

Must have used up their travel budget covering hockey ::crazy::

Quote from: Jeff Hopkins '82We get Duke.

With the Danowski/Greer* career points record also essentially on the line.

Stats from the laxpower game update:

Final Stats:
Shots: 43-32 Duke
Saves: 13-2 ND
Ground Balls: 31-21 Duke
Face Offs: 16-10 Duke
Clears: Duke 19/19; ND 18/23
EMOs: Duke 0/0; ND 3/4
TOs: Duke: 17; ND: 19

I've been reading that Duke's defense & goaltending is their weak link. Notre Dame's defense was highly regarded. I think, as much as I hate Duke, the cards fell right for Cornell with this matchup.

*I'm pretty sure the TV isn't listing Greer as the co-record holder due to Greer's 5th year at Bryant, which was quasi-Division I at the time.

Sadly, it seems that The Ithaca Journal has almost no travel budget any longer, either. Though it appears they will at least make the trip to Philly.

Lehigh coach Kevin Cassese, a former Duke assistant, gave Duke the edge over Cornell in goaltending on the ESPNU post-game show.

The New Haven Register is a much larger paper than the Ithaca Journal. For example, it covers nearly every UConn basketball game, men's and women's, home and away.
