But, for some pedantry of my own, I'm pretty sure Olympic medals, like Oscars, can not be sold. They are technically owned by the issuing organization in order to preclude a memorabilia aftermarket. Not sure if it is ever enforced, though, and I'm never going to give up my Oscar for Best Film Editing 1983. It isn't my fault Tom Rolf can't play poker.

The IOC may claim this. But a google search shows plenty of stories about athletes selling medals. So I'd bet it's pretty much unenforceable.
