IIRC, he did come close by ringing one off the crossbar.

I thought it was Jon Gleed who rang it off the crossbar.

I was Glover. :-/
I was Spartacus... er, Glover!

Quote from: sah67Ryan O'Byrne wearing his new #20 is on the ice for Montreal tonight against Bitz and the Bruins.

Does anyone know the reason for this number change.   When they gave him #3, I thought it might be an indicator that he is well entrenched in their future plans.   Does this change to #20 indicate that his stock has dropped?

He changed numbers b/c they retired #3 on December 4th.

There's a nice story on Yahoo Sports.
Quote[Emile] Bouchard, a four-time Stanley Cup champion with Montreal from 1941-56, was then wheeled out onto the red carpet by son Pierre Bouchard, a former Montreal defenseman.

The 91-year-old [Elmer] Lach, the oldest living former Canadiens player, won three Stanley Cups from 1940-54. He joined his former teammate as Canadiens defenseman Ryan O'Byrne presented the 90-year-old Bouchard with a No. 3 banner.

O'Byrne then took off his jersey while the banners were being hoisted to reveal a No. 20 jersey. Lach's No. 16 was previously retired in honor of Henri Richard, who won a record 11 Stanley Cups and was on hand for the ceremony.

I remember a different year and a different crossbar, but the same result. ::bang::[/quote]

Said it before and I'll say it again - the sound of P.C. Drouin's shot clanging off the crossbar at Albany in the '96 NCAAs still reverberates in my ear.

Here are a couple of blurbs on the club-team tournament.

They actually had a little video about the Spengler Cup in the International section of the Hockey Hall of Fame.  Of course, it mispronounced "Davos".

Maybe because Robb is in Montreal for 2 weeks, tickets to go see O'Byrne kick some Penguin butt on Thursday in hand!

Whoo-hoo!
Let's Go RED!

Moulson's on the box score 2x in the first period vs. the Leafs tonight - for penalties, one of which resulted in a goal.  Still, he was on the ice for the last minute of the period, so apparently not in the doghouse....

Matt's penalties were right after the TSN commentators gave Matt, Mike Schafer and the Cornell program lots of compliments for developing good, smart hockey players ::doh::.

Matt was on the ice and screened Toskala (sp) when Tavares got the Isles on the board on a 5 v. 3. Isle's to the PP. Score Matt Score.

Byron is out for a Bit[z]. (Ha!)  He's got the flu, so he's an unhealthy scratch for tonight.

During last night's Islanders-Leafs game, the announcers mentioned that Schafer was doing a great job of preparing players for the NHL while ensuring that they received a quality education. They talked about how Matt had stayed for four full years and that Chris was there now. Moulson promptly committed a penalty in the offensive zone (in the crease, no less) and Toronto scored on the pp.
