Yessssssss!

Mouson in OT.

I still like when they kick ass and take no prisoners but this was exciting.

Vesce from Moulson
Cornell 3-2 in OT :-)

It's good to see us win in a situation where we're not up 3-0 after 1.  We can play under pressure...

These kinds of games are good every once and a while.

Of course, it doesn't hurt that we won. :-)

Chris 02

Is that the first OT win since the 00-01 season?

Thank god for Ryan Vesce.

Sounds like we survived Western Michigan's best game of the year.  Great game by both teams -- take the wins and run!

from the USCHO recap:

[Q]"Bobby broke the puck out," said Vesce, "and I was yelling at Moulson to drive wide. He drove the net, sent it across, and I was lucky to get a stick on it."[/Q]
"When we came off, [Bitz] said, 'Thank God you scored that goal,'" Moulson said. "He would've killed me if I didn't."

I only had time to listen to the first period, but as I left I thought "They only score off of our mistakes.  And this team won't make any more mistakes tonight.  I'm not worried."   Great game guys.  On to Florida.

Just back in town after being there last night.  So here are some impressions from someone who hadn't seen the team live since Estero '00, though I did watch all five televised tournament games we played last year.  First, Paolini, Cook and Hynes all were out with injuries.
It was the first time I'd seen Lenny in goal, and he couldn't be faulted for either goal as both were on defensive giveaways that resulted in guys coming in all alone.   We did seem to struggle somewhat clearing the puck in our own end after rebounds, and Lenny seemed to be using his body to block shots more than I expected.  The first line Moulson-Vesce-Baby looked great, particularly Vesce who won a lot of face-offs cleanly back to the defensemen.   I was real impressed by the Abbott brothers, who were on a line with Hornby. They seemed quick, talented and played well together, generating a lot of chances.  Any win is a good win, and the team showed plenty of heart coming back from the deficit and taking over the game.
While the rink seemed only 60-65% full, the WMU fans were active and into the game, albeit not necessarily in the best of taste.  They were on the Cornell players after each penalty (e.g.  chanting "Hornby swallows) and on the refs a lot, which is probably counter-productive.  I thought the ref (Piotrowski) did a real good job.  There was a fairly large Cornell contingent, we seemed to have 100-200 there, although the hardcore travelling Faithful group of about a dozen or so (JTW and others) were responsible for most of the noise on our side.  The radio was right behind the WMU section, so I know that's probably all you heard on radio.
On a personal note, aside from the victory, I had a great time reminiscing about the good old days with Dick Bertrand.
