Interesting idea.  Will this finally decide which conference is college hockey's best or just show the superiority of the big 3??  The article does not state which teams will be involved.

Dumbest idea ever. I still want to believe it's a joke press release.

Ranks up there with Union's ".400=success" and a BTHC. Seriously.

I guess I just don't see the point of it.

If they're going to do this, they might as well make the Championship Belt real and official. :-D
Is next year here yet?

So basically they took existing NC games, grouped them, and called them a "championship"?

Um, okay.

Yeah, pretty silly.  I can't imagine anyone is going to take this seriously anyway.  I also guarantee that WCHA fans (for instance) are not going to concede that another conference is better on the basis of this small sample of games. And rightly so.

Hey, if someone wants to go and give out a meaningless trophy more power to 'em.  Doesn't seem to affect us in any way.  And who knows, maybe the ECAC will actually win (yeah, right).

It just seems to be a fomalization of the discussions that college hockey fans have anyway.  Every year, you see/hear about how one conference is better than the other, backed with evidence from the games played between their respective members.  So I think it's college hockey's way of getting in on that discussion to try to drum up a little more excitement/interest, probably with a longer term plan in mind (maybe a formal inter-conference holiday break tournament; maybe a pre-season tournament (like hoops' pre-season NIT); maybe add some games to the schedule throughout the season).  And anyway, who's getting hurt by it?

Yeah, well, people on USCHO keep track of the Empire Cup (teams in NY), the non-Ivy cup, and then of course, there's the Cleary Spittoon - all random groupings of regular season games.  No big whup.

The Cleary Spittoon isn't exactly "random".

nor are either of the others "random."  they're merely poorly-chosen.
